Oregon Route 62
Oregon Route 62 is an Oregon state highway that runs between the city of Medford, and U.S. Route 97 between Chiloquin and Klamath Falls. The highway approaches Crater Lake National Park from the south, and is known as the Crater Lake Highway. While the highway is signed east-to-west, it is in reality shaped somewhat like a horseshoe; heading north-northeast from Medford, turning east as it approaches the park, and then turning south-southeast as it approaches Klamath Falls. Oregon Route 140 intersects with OR 62 in White City and Oregon Route 66 (which runs directly between Ashland and Klamath Falls). These are more direct routes between Medford and Klamath Falls. Medford, Oregon
Medford is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Oregon, in the United States. As of the 2020 United States Census on April 1, 2020, the city had a total population of 85,824 and a metropolitan area population of 223,259, making the Medford MSA the fourth largest metro area in Oregon. The city was named in 1883 by David Loring, civil engineer and right-of-way agent for the Oregon and California Railroad, after Medford, Massachusetts, which was near Loring's hometown of Concord, Massachusetts. Oregon Route 238
Oregon Route 238 is an Oregon state highway which runs between the cities of Grants Pass, Oregon and Medford, Oregon, and through the historic town of Jacksonville. It is known as the Jacksonville Highway No. 272 (see Oregon highways and routes), and is long. It lies in Jackson and Josephine County. Route description OR 238 begins, at its western terminus, at an interchange with U.S. Route 199 and Oregon Route 99 in Grants Pass. The highway heads south from there, eventually turning to the southeast, skirting the southern edge of the Rogue Valley, and the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains. It continues in a general southeasterly direction for quite a while, and then turns northeast towards Jacksonville. Crater Lake
Crater Lake ( Klamath: ''Giiwas'') is a volcanic crater lake in south-central Oregon in the western United States. It is the main feature of Crater Lake National Park and is famous for its deep blue color and water clarity. The lake partly fills a caldera that was formed around 7,700 (± 150) years ago by the collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama. There are no rivers flowing into or out of the lake; the evaporation is compensated for by rain and snowfall at a rate such that the total amount of water is replaced every 250 years. With a depth of , the lake is the deepest in the United States. In the world, it ranks ninth for maximum depth, and third for mean (average) depth. Crater Lake features two small islands. OR 227
Oregon Route 227 was an Oregon state highway which originally ran from the city of Canyonville, Oregon to the community of Trail. In 1985, the highway was truncated at the Douglas–Jackson county line; only the southern section remained under state control. It was known as the Tiller–Trail Highway No. 230 (see Oregon highways and routes). Route description OR 227 previously began, at its western terminus, at an interchange with Interstate 5 and Oregon Route 99 in Canyonville. It headed east from there, into the foothills of the southern Oregon Cascades, along the South Fork of the Umpqua River. East of the town of Tiller, it diverges from the river, and heads south. The final form of the highway began at the county line and continued southward and ended at an intersection with Oregon Route 62 in Trail. Canyonville is a city in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,884 at the 2010 census. The main regional tourist attraction, the Seven Feathers Casino Resort is in Canyonville. It is known as the West Diamond Lake Highway No. 233 (see Oregon highways and routes), and is long. Route description OR 230 begins, at its southern (or "western") terminus, at an intersection with Oregon Route 62 near Union Creek. It heads north, skirting along the western edge of the park. The highway terminates at an intersection with Oregon Route 138 just south of Diamond Lake.
