Operation Nevada Eagle
Operation Nevada Eagle was a security operation during the Vietnam War in Thừa Thiên Province, that took place from 17 May 1968 to 28 February 1969. Background The mission of Operation Nevada Eagle was to protect Huế and the surrounding districts. General Olinto M. Barsanti stationed the 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, in the lowlands to help South Vietnamese forces defend Revolutionary Development areas and to prevent the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) and Vietcong (VC) from acquiring rice during the summer harvest. The 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division and the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, operating in the foothills southwest of Huế, conducted spoiling attacks into Base Area 114 from the bases they had built along Route 547 in March and April. Vietnam War
The Vietnam War (also known by other names) was a conflict in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955 to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. 502nd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 502nd Infantry Regiment (502nd IR), previously titled the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (502nd PIR), is an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The regiment was established shortly after U.S. entry into World War II, and was assigned as a regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, "The Screaming Eagles", one of the most decorated formations of the U.S. Army. The regiment saw substantial action in the European Theater of World War II and was inactivated in 1945, shortly after the end of the war. Camp Evans (Vietnam)
Camp Evans is a former U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps base northwest of Huế in central Vietnam. History 1966-7 Camp Evans was established by the 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines in late 1966 as part of Operation Chinook. The camp was located to the west of Highway 1, approximately 24 km northwest of Huế in Thừa Thiên–Huế Province. The camp was named after Marine Lance Corporal Paul Evans who was killed during Operation Chinook. Sapper
A sapper, also called a pioneer or combat engineer, is a combatant or soldier who performs a variety of military engineering duties, such as breaching fortifications, demolitions, bridge-building, laying or clearing minefields, preparing field defenses, and road and airfield construction and repair. 321st Field Artillery Regiment
The 321st Field Artillery Regiment (321st FAR) is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army. A parent regiment under the U.S. Army Regimental System, the 321st FAR currently has one active battalion, the 3rd Battalion, 321st FAR, assigned to the 18th Field Artillery Brigade at Fort Bragg, NC. 505th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (505th PIR), originally the 505th Infantry Regiment, is an airborne infantry regiment of the United States Army, one of four infantry regiments of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, with a long and distinguished history. Activated in July 1942 during World War II, the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment participated in the Allied invasion of Sicily, later landing at Salerno, the Battle of Normandy, the Netherlands and the Battle of the Bulge. Firebase Panther III is a former United States Army firebase southwest of Huế, Thừa Thiên Province in central Vietnam.
