Omkara (2006 Film)
''Omkara'' is a 2006 Indian crime drama film adapted from William Shakespeare's ''Othello'', co-written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It starred an ensemble cast of Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Vivek Oberoi and Bipasha Basu in lead roles. The director Vishal Bhardwaj himself composed the entire music for the film, including the background score, with lyrics by Gulzar. The film is set in Meerut, a city in Uttar Pradesh. It is the second film in Bhardwaj's trilogy of Shakespeare adaptations, which began with ''Maqbool'' (2003) and was completed with ''Haider'' (2014). Vishal Bhardwaj
Vishal Bhardwaj (born 4 August 1965) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, producer, music composer and playback singer. He is known for his work in Hindi cinema, and is the recipient of seven National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award. Bhardwaj made his debut as a music composer with the children's film ''Abhay (The Fearless)'' (1995), and received wider recognition with his compositions in Gulzar's ''Maachis'' (1996). He received the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for the latter. He went on to compose music for the films ''Satya (1998 film), Satya'' (1998) and ''Godmother (film), Godmother'' (1999). For the latter, he garnered the National Film Award for Best Music Direction. Bhardwaj made his directorial debut with the children's film ''Makdee'' (2002), for which he also composed the music. The National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress is an honour presented annually at India's National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF), an organisation set up by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. ''Maqbool'' is a 2004 Indian crime drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and starring Irrfan, Tabu, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Piyush Mishra, Murali Sharma and Masumeh Makhija in an adaptation of the play ''Macbeth'' by Shakespeare. The plot of the film is based on that of ''Macbeth'' with regard to events and characterisation.
