Romualdo Palacio González
Romualdo Palacios González (8 February 1827 – 7 September 1908) was a Spanish general and governor of Puerto Rico in 1887. He is best remembered for his political persecution of Puerto Rican '' Autonomistas'' called ''Componte'', a term that means "to rectify" or "to pacify". His favorite detention centers were the jails at the Ponce Military Barracks in Ponce and the Fort San Felipe del Morro in San Juan. Amongst his most notable persecutions was that of Román Baldorioty de Castro. Palacios was removed from office by the Spanish Government and returned to Spain on 11 November 1887. Tricentennial Park (Ponce, Puerto Rico)
Parque del Tricentenario is a passive urban park in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. The park was built to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city. It was inaugurated during the mayoral administration of mayor Rafael Cordero Santiago. Location The park is a passive urban family park. It is located in Barrio Tercero (Ponce), Tercero at the entrance to the Ponce Historic Zone on Miguel Pou Boulevard, at the southern terminus of Puerto Rico Highway 1, PR-1. Features The park is a three-plaza park. All three plazas have gardens and marble benches. Setting the stage for the park is ''El Puente de los Leones'' (The Bridge of the Lions). It spans Rio Portugues and is the gateway to, not just Parque del Tricentenario, but to the Ponce Historic Zone, Ponce historical district as well. Adjuntas (, ) is a small mountainside town and municipality in Puerto Rico located central midwestern portion of the island on the Cordillera Central, north of Yauco, Guayanilla, and Peñuelas; southeast of Utuado; east of Lares and Yauco; and northwest of Ponce. Adjuntas is spread over 16 ''barrios'' and Adjuntas Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). Adjuntas is about two hours by car westward from the capital, San Juan. Román Baldorioty De Castro
Román Baldorioty de Castro (23 February 1822 – 30 September 1889) was Puerto Rican abolitionist and spokesman for the island's right to self-determination. In 1870, he was elected as a deputy in the Cortes Generales, the Spanish parliament, where he promoted abolition of slavery. In 1887, Baldorioty de Castro was the founder of the ''Partido Autonomista'' (Autonomist Party), also known as "Partido Autonomista Puro" (Pure Autonomous Party), "Partido Histórico" (Historic Party), and "Partido Ortodoxo" (Orthodox Party). Early years Baldorioty de Castro was born in Guaynabo to a poor family. His family moved to San Juan when he was young, where he received his primary education as a student of the noted educator, Rafael Cordero. Barrio Magueyes
Magueyes is one of the 31 barrios of the municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Together with Cerrillos, Machuelo Arriba, Maragüez, Montes Llanos, Portugués, Sabanetas, and Tibes, Magueyes is one of the municipality's eight interior barrios. The name of this barrio is of native Indian origin. It was created in 1831. History Magueyes is one of the oldest barrios in Ponce. It is home to Hacienda Buena Vista, dating from 1833.
