Old Toongabbie, New South Wales
Old Toongabbie is a suburb of Greater Western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 29 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Parramatta. History Toongabbie is derived from an Aboriginal word, reported as meaning ''place by the water'' or ''meeting by the water''. It was named in June 1792 after Governor Arthur Phillip asked the local Aboriginal people what they called the place. It is the oldest official use of an Aboriginal place-name – Parramatta which was founded earlier was first called ''Rose Hill''. The area continued to be known as Toongabbie until the construction of the Main Western railway line and the building of the railway station of Toongabbie. Nathan Rees
Nathan Rees () (born 12 February 1968) is a former Australian politician who served as the 41st Premier of New South Wales and parliamentary leader of the New South Wales division of the Labor Party from September 2008 to December 2009. Rees was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Toongabbie for Labor from 2007 to 2015. Rees replaced Morris Iemma as Premier and party leader on 5 September 2008. Parramatta River
The Parramatta River is an intermediate tide-dominated, drowned valley estuary located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. With an average depth of , the Parramatta River is the main tributary of Sydney Harbour, a branch of Port Jackson. Secondary tributaries include the smaller Lane Cove and Duck rivers. First Fleet
The First Fleet was a fleet of 11 ships that brought the first European and African settlers to Australia. It was made up of two Royal Navy vessels, three store ships and six convict transports. Toongabbie Railway Station
Toongabbie railway station is located on the Main Western line, serving the Sydney suburb of Toongabbie. It is served by Sydney Trains T1 Western and T5 Cumberland line services. History Toongabbie station opened on 26 April 1880. The station was a small, unattended conditional stopping place. The first platform was on the northern side of the track. When the line was duplicated in March 1886, an additional platform was added on the south side of the tracks. A disc on the end of a five-foot pole was held up by intending passengers to stop the train. The station was rebuilt in the 1940s when the Main Western line was quadrupled. In 2018, work was completed on an accessibility upgrade which like its neighbouring stations Pendle Hill and Wentworthville included a new concourse, footbridge and lifts as part of the Station Accessibility Upgrade Program.
