Old Hats
''Old Hats'' is a 2013 comedy sketch, revue, musical and clown show written and performed by David Shiner and Bill Irwin, the show debuted in New York City. Musician Nellie McKay also performed in the 2013 show. The original 2013 Off-Broadway was a combination of "clowning revue-with-music". ''Old Hats'' won the 2013 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revue. David Shiner (clown)
David Shiner (born September 13, 1953) is an American actor, clown, playwright and theater director. Background and career Shiner was born in Boston, Massachusetts. His father, Francis Shiner, was a computer programmer. Shiner, usually donning a small dunce cap, started as a street mime, first in Colorado, and later in France and Germany. He managed to get multiple gigs with various circuses, including performances with the German Circus Roncalli and the Swiss National Circus (Circus Knie). In between he toured performing a dual act with René Bazinet. From 1990 he was featured in Cirque du Soleil's production ''Nouvelle Expérience'', touring for 19 months through Canada and the USA and playing for another year in Las Vegas. With his antics, including stepping through, on and over much of the crowd and the staging of a mock silent-movie melodrama with four members of the audience, he may be the best-remembered of the Cirque's clowns. Shaina Taub is an American singer, composer and musician. Biography Taub graduated from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Taub composed and starred in three adaptations of Shakespeare plays for The Public Theater's Public Works program: ''Twelfth Night'' in both 2016 and 2018 and ''As You Like It'' in 2017 Taub has appeared Off-Broadway in the revival of the revue show '' Old Hats'' in 2016, ''Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812'' (2013), and ''Hadestown'' (2016). William Mills Irwin (born April 11, 1950) is an American actor, clown, and comedian. He began as a vaudeville-style stage performer and has been noted for his contribution to the renaissance of American circus during the 1970s. He has made a number of appearances on film and television, and he won a Tony Award for his role in '' Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'' on Broadway. Nell Marie McKay (born April 13, 1982) is a singer and songwriter. She made her Broadway debut in ''The Threepenny Opera'' (2006). Early life and education McKay was born in London to an English father, writer-director Malcolm McKay, and an American mother, actress Robin Pappas. She also has a half sister, author Alice Clark Platts. She holds dual citizenship. While growing up, she lived with her mother in Harlem, New York, in Olympia, Washington and in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania.
