Old Christians Club
Old Christians Club, or simply Old Christians, is an Uruguayan sports club from the Carrasco neighbourhood of Montevideo. The club is known mostly for its rugby union team that became famous around the world due to the 1972 Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crash that involved the first division team of the club. Old Christians currently plays in Primera División, the top division of local rugby system. Apart from rugby union, the club also hosts football and field hockey branches. History Old Christians Club was founded in 1962 by alumni of the Christian Brothers – Stella Maris College, one of Montevideo's best high schools. The institution started as a rugby union club and, like most rugby clubs in Uruguay and Argentina, also developed a field hockey section for girls; thus becoming a multi-sports club. Old Boys & Old Girls Club, simply known as Old Boys, is a Uruguayan sports club from the Carrasco neighbourhood of Montevideo. The club was founded by alumni of the city's British Schools. Mainly known for its rugby union team, other sports practised at the club include boxing, field hockey, football, gymnastics, squash and tennis. History The British Schools of Montevideo were founded in 1908. Six years later, the school's first alumni decided to create a social and sport club: The Old Boys Club. Female alumni followed suit some years later and founded the Old Girls Club in 1937. Carrasco Polo Club is a Uruguayan sports club from the Carrasco, Montevideo, Carrasco neighbourhood of Montevideo. Its name references directly the polo team and the fact that Carrasco has one of Uruguay's leading equestrian centres. Apart from polo, the club hosts a large variety of sports, such as equitation, field hockey, association football, football, rugby union and tennis. Huaso
A huaso () is a Chilean countryman and skilled horseman, similar to the United States, American cowboy, the Mexico, Mexican charro (and its northern equivalent, the vaquero), the gaucho of Argentina, Uruguay and Rio Grande Do Sul, and the Australian Stockman (Australia), stockman. A female ''huaso'' is called a huasa, although the term china is far more commonly used for his wife or sweetheart, whose dress can be seen in cueca dancing. Roberto Canessa
Roberto Jorge Canessa Urta, M.D., (born 17 January 1953) is one of the 16 survivors of the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed in the Andes mountains on 13 October 1972, and a Uruguayan political figure. He was portrayed by Josh Hamilton in the 1993 feature film, ''Alive''. 13 October 1972 air crash At the time of the accident, Canessa was a 19-year-old medical student. Fernando "Nando" Seler Parrado Dolgay (born 9 December 1949) is one of the sixteen Uruguayan survivors of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed in the Andes mountains on 13 October 1972. After spending two months trapped in the mountains with the other crash survivors, he, along with Roberto Canessa, climbed through the Andes mountains over a 10-day period to find help. His efforts, supported in various ways by the entire group, have been recognized through books and other media. He was portrayed by Ethan Hawke in the 1993 feature film ''Alive''.
