Ohio State Route 85
State Route 85 (SR 85, OH 85) is an east–west state highway in the northeastern Ohio. The western terminus of SR 85 is in the center of Andover where it intersects U.S. Route 6 (US 6) and SR 7. Its eastern terminus is just over east of Andover at the Pennsylvania state line in the middle of the causeway across the Pymatuning Reservoir, where Pennsylvania Route 285 (PA 285) continues east. The shortest of three state routes that lie completely within Ashtabula County, the current SR 85 is a fraction of the route it was when first designated in the mid-1920s, when it ran from Euclid to the Pennsylvania state line. When US 6 was designated in Ohio in the early 1930s, SR 85 was at first co-signed with the U.S. highway from Euclid to Andover, but by the late 1930s, the SR 85 shields were removed from this stretch of roadway, leaving just the stretch of highway that exists today. North Shenango Township, Pennsylvania
North Shenango Township is a township in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,274 at the 2020 census, down from 1,410 at the 2010 census. Geography The township is located in western Crawford County, bordered to the west by Ashtabula County in Ohio. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and , or 28.31%, is water. The northern and western sides of the township lie within Pymatuning Reservoir, one of the largest reservoirs in Pennsylvania. The western half of the township is part of the Pymatuning Central census-designated place, primarily consisting of the unincorporated community of Espyville. Euclid is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. It is an inner ring suburb of Cleveland. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 49,692. History The City of Euclid was originally a part of Euclid Township, first mapped in 1796 and named for Euclid of Alexandria, the ancient Greek mathematician. The first sparse settlement in the township began in 1798, with major settlement beginning in the spring of 1804. State Route 2 (SR 2), formerly known as Inter-county Highway 2 until 1921 and State Highway 2 in 1922, is an east–west highway crossing most of northern Ohio. Its western terminus is at the Indiana state line near Hicksville where the route becomes Indiana State Road 37 which continues to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Pymatuning State Park (Ohio)
Pymatuning State Park is a 3512 acres (14.21 km2) Ohio state park near Andover, Ashtabula County, Ohio in the United States. Pymatuning State Park contains 1,407 acres (5.69 km2) of Pymatuning Lake, one-quarter of which is in Ohio and three-quarters of which is in Pennsylvania. The lake provides fishing and boating year round. Formed in the 1930s by a dam on the Shenango River, the lake features multiple beaches and camping areas in both states. The northeastern part of Pymatuning Lake, east of the spillway and three miles (5 km) south of Linesville, is a protected gameland where colonies of 20,000 Canada geese and many more ducks winter each year. The lake is the result of an earth dam three miles (5 km) north of Jamestown, Pennsylvania, whose outflow forms the Shenango River. Andover is a village located in the south-east of Ashtabula County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,145 at the 2010 census. The closest village to the Ohio side of Pymatuning State Park, the settlement supports a regional tourism industry. Andover was incorporated in 1883. Pymatuning Reservoir is a man-made lake in Crawford County, Pennsylvania and Ashtabula County, Ohio in the United States, on land that was once a very large swamp. Much of it is incorporated into two state parks: Pymatuning State Park in Pennsylvania, and Pymatuning State Park in Ohio. History The first known inhabitants were the Mound builders. Two of their mounds were flooded by the creation of Pymatuning Lake. The Lenape were living in the area when European settlers first came there. The lake is named for the chief who lived in the area at the time, Pihmtomink. The Lenape were pushed out of the area by the Seneca tribe, a member of the Iroquois Confederacy. The Seneca were defeated by General Anthony Wayne's forces during the Northwest Indian War and left the area under the terms of the Treaty of Greenville.
