Odd Østbye
Odd Kjeld Østbye (1925–2009) was a Norwegian architect, professor at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (1988-1993), and rector of the same school from 1990–1993. After graduating with his examen artium degree in 1944, Østbye studied construction at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry until 1948, in preparation for a getting his degree at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. From 1949-1952, he worked for the Oslo city architect's office. In 1961, Østbye began his own architectural business. Østbye received the King's Medal of Merit in 2004. Vestre Aker
Vestre Aker (Western Aker) is a borough of the city of Oslo, Norway. It has a population of 50,157 as of 2020. The previous Aker Municipality was merged into the city of Oslo in 1948. The borough of Vestre Aker was organized as part of the 1 January 2004 reform. Previous boroughs Vinderen and Røa became part of the new borough of Vestre Aker. The borough of Vestre Aker does not correspond to Vestre Aker parish of the Church of Norway, that lies east of the borough. King's Medal Of Merit
The King's Medal of Merit (Norwegian: ''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') is a Norwegian award. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society. The medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements. The medal is suspended from a ribbon in the colours of the Royal Standard of Norway. The medal in gold is ranked eighth in the ranking of Norwegian orders and medals. Sletta Church ( no, Sletta kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Frøya municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located to the northeastern shore of the island of Frøya, about north of the municipal center of Sistranda. It is one of several churches for the Frøya parish which is part of the Orkdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, concrete church was built in a modern, circular design in 1990 using plans drawn up by the architect Odd Østbye. The church seats about 430 people. Venabygd Chapel ( no, Venabygd fjellkapell) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Ringebu Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Venabu. It is an annex chapel for the Venabygd parish which is part of the Sør-Gudbrandsdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The brown, wood church was built in a long church design in 1979 using plans drawn up by the architect Odd Østbye. The church seats about 50 people. History The parish priest in Ringebu, Simon Dahlen, began the initiative to build a chapel in Venabu, and he put together a committee to help him with the project. Åssiden is the largest borough of Drammen in Buskerud county, Norway. Åssiden was a part of Lier municipality until 1951, when it became part of Drammen municipality. Åssiden is located on the western side of Drammen, north of the Drammenselva. Historically Åssiden was the location through which lumber was transported via Drammenselva into the city. Åssiden Elvepark is a park which was built on old landfill sites by the Drammenselva. Karasjok Church
Karasjok Church ( no, Karasjok kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Karasjok Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Karasjok. It is the main church for the Karasjok parish which is part of the Indre Finnmark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The brown, wooden church was built in 1974 to replace the Old Karasjok Church which was built in 1807. The new church was designed by the architect Odd Østbye and it seats about 500 people. The ground plan is roughly rectangular and all the rooms on the ground level are consolidated under one roof. A low "pitched tent" roof unites with a large ridge turret that has a skylight. The building is clad with vertical panelling. The parish's assembly room, sitting room, offices, and sacristy are located towards the southeast/southwest. Snarøya Church
Snarøya is a populated peninsula in the inner Oslofjord in Norway. It belongs to Bærum municipality in Viken (formerly Akershus) county. It is located south of the districts Lysaker, Lagåsen and Fornebu, and has 2,940 inhabitants. History Its name is derived from the word ''snar'', meaning thicket or brushy terrain. Grorud
Grorud is a borough of the city of Oslo, Norway. The borough contains the Ammerud, Grorud, Kalbakken, Rødtvet, Nordtvet and Romsås areas. To the north of the borough is the forest of Lillomarka. The borough is the smallest in Oslo, with fewer than 30 000 inhabitants. The area now known as Grorud was mostly farm land until after World War II, an exception being Grorud proper, where mining was an important livelihood.
