Obwodnica Trójmiejska
The Tricity Ring Road (Polish language, Polish: ''Obwodnica trójmiejska'', ''Obwodnica Trójmiasta'', ''Trasa Obwodowa Trójmiasta'') is a ring road in Poland bypassing the metropolitan area formed by the cities of Gdynia, Sopot and Gdańsk commonly known as the Tricity, Poland, Tricity. The beltway runs north to south from Gdynia to Pruszcz Gdański and is long. It forms a part of the Expressway S6 (Poland), S6 expressway which will eventually run from Szczecin to Gdańsk. It is also part of the European route E28. History Construction started in the 1970s and the first section was opened for use in 1977. Due to a lack of funds during the 1980s, construction was delayed many times. The fall of communism in 1990 also slowed down construction. Major sections of the beltway were completed in 2001 with the last two major junctions finished in 2008. A ring road (also known as circular road, beltline, beltway, circumferential (high)way, loop, bypass or orbital) is a road or a series of connected roads encircling a town, city, or country. The most common purpose of a ring road is to assist in reducing traffic volumes in the urban centre, such as by offering an alternate route around the city for drivers who do not need to stop in the city core. The autostrada A1, officially named Amber Highway ( pl, Autostrada Bursztynowa) in Poland is a north–south motorway, partly under construction, that runs through central Poland, from Gdańsk (on the Baltic Sea) through Łódź and the Upper Silesian Industry Area (to the west of Katowice) to the Polish-Czech border in Gorzyczki/Věřňovice, where it is connected with the Czech motorway D1. European route E28 is a west-east intermediate road in the international E-road network. Beginning at the Bundesautobahn 10 (''Berliner Ring'') in Germany, it runs west-east for a length of to Minsk, Belarus. The section between Kaliningrad and Minsk is part of the Pan-European Corridor IX. Expressway S6 (Poland)
Expressway S6 (in Polish ''droga ekspresowa S6'') is a major road in Poland which has been planned to run from the A6 autostrada in Szczecin, through Goleniów in West Pomerania to Gdańsk parallel to the Baltic coast, forming the main connection between Gdańsk and Szczecin. The first section of S6 built was the '' Obwodnica Trójmiejska'' ( Tricity Bypass) from Gdańsk to Gdynia, which is long, followed by the section between Szczecin and Goleniów, both in the 1970s. The next part of S6 to be opened was bypass of Słupsk that was completed in October 2010. The bypass of Nowogard was completed in December 2011, with the rest of the section between Szczecin and Koszalin open by 2019. In July 2010, the route between Goleniów and Słupsk was finalised.
