OHA Senior A League (1890–1979)
The Ontario Hockey Association Senior A League was a top tier Canadian senior ice hockey league in Ontario from 1890 until 1979. The league was sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association and its clubs competed for the Allan Cup. History The league was founded in 1890 by the Ontario Hockey Association. At the top tier of Canadian Senior hockey, the league was eligible and often competed for the Allan Cup. In 1975, the OHA allowed Hockey Northwestern Ontario's Thunder Bay Twins, the defending Allan Cup champions to enter the league. In 1978, the league briefly changed its name to the Canadian International League, possibly to compete with Semi-Pro leagues which were rapidly gaining popularity. The league folded in 1979, when most of its teams vacated to the Continental Senior A Hockey League and Major Intermediate A Hockey League. Chatham Maroons (IHL)
The Chatham Maroons are a defunct Canadian semi-professional and amateur senior ice hockey team. The team played in the City of Chatham, Ontario, Canada and participated in the International Hockey League on two occasions and the OHA Senior A Hockey League in between. History In 1950, the Chatham Maroons won the International Hockey League's Turner Cup as playoff champions by defeating the Sarnia Sailors 4-games-to-3. This was the Maroons' only professional championship. The Maroons later played in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) as a member of the OHA Senior A League. The team won the J. Ross Robertson Cup as league champions in 1956 and 1960, and were finalists in 1962 and 1963. 1918 Allan Cup
The 1918 Allan Cup was the Canadian senior ice hockey championship for the 1917–18 season. The final challenge was hosted by the Kitchener Greenshirts and Toronto, Ontario. The 1918 playoff marked the 11th time the Allan Cup had a champion. The 1918 Allan Cup also marked the final time the Allan Cup would be awarded through a challenge series. Winnipeg Victorias
The Winnipeg Victorias were a former amateur senior-level men's amateur ice hockey team in Winnipeg, Manitoba, organized in 1889. They played in the Manitoba Hockey Association (MHA) in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Victorias won the Stanley Cup in February 1896, 1901 and January 1902 while losing the Cup in December 1896, February 1899, February 1900, March 1902, and February 1903. After the Stanley Cup became the professional championship, the Victorias continued in senior-level amateur play, winning the Allan Cup in 1911 and 1912. The title was first held by the Winnipeg Victorias who won their league and two challenges, before losing in the final challenge to the Toronto Dentals. Queen's University at Kingston, commonly known as Queen's University or simply Queen's, is a public research university in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Queen's holds more than of land throughout Ontario and owns Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England. Queen's is organized into eight faculties and schools. The Church of Scotland established Queen's College in October 1841 via a royal charter from Queen Victoria. The 1910 Allan Cup was the Canadian senior ice hockey championship for the 1909–10 season. The Allan Cup title was held by Queen's Golden Gaels and the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. Queen's won its league and a challenge before losing to Toronto, who successfully defended the title against Sherbrooke. The Rockford IceHogs are a professional ice hockey team based in Rockford, Illinois. They are members of the American Hockey League (AHL), having begun play in the League starting in the 2007–08 season. The team plays their home games at the BMO Harris Bank Center, and they serve as the top minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League (NHL)'s Chicago Blackhawks. Rockford IceHogs (UHL)
The Rockford IceHogs were a minor professional ice hockey team in Rockford, Illinois. They were a member of the United Hockey League from 1999 to 2007. The IceHogs played their home games at the Rockford MetroCentre, MetroCentre. In 2007, the name and logo were purchased and applied to the current Rockford IceHogs, American Hockey League franchise. After the transfer of the name and logo to the AHL franchise was complete, the UHL IceHogs ceased operations. The IceHogs began play in October 1999. The team name, IceHogs, was selected during a "name-the-team" contest.
