Chatham Maroons (IHL)
The Chatham Maroons are a defunct Canadian semi-professional and amateur senior ice hockey team. The team played in the City of Chatham, Ontario, Canada and participated in the International Hockey League on two occasions and the OHA Senior A Hockey League in between. History In 1950, the Chatham Maroons won the International Hockey League's Turner Cup as playoff champions by defeating the Sarnia Sailors 4-games-to-3. This was the Maroons' only professional championship. The Maroons later played in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) as a member of the OHA Senior A League. The team won the J. Ross Robertson Cup as league champions in 1956 and 1960, and were finalists in 1962 and 1963. The Chatham Maroons were the winners of the 1960 Allan Cup, emblematic of the top senior hockey team in all of Canada. OHA Senior A League (1890–1979)
The Ontario Hockey Association Senior A League was a top tier Canadian senior ice hockey league in Ontario from 1890 until 1979. The league was sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association and its clubs competed for the Allan Cup. History The league was founded in 1890 by the Ontario Hockey Association. At the top tier of Canadian Senior hockey, the league was eligible and often competed for the Allan Cup. In 1975, the OHA allowed Hockey Northwestern Ontario's Thunder Bay Twins, the defending Allan Cup champions to enter the league. In 1978, the league briefly changed its name to the Canadian International League, possibly to compete with Semi-Pro leagues which were rapidly gaining popularity. The Ice Hockey World Championships are an annual international men's ice hockey tournament organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). First officially held at the 1920 Summer Olympics, it is the sport's highest profile annual international tournament. The IIHF was created in 1908 while the European Championships, the precursor to the World Championships, were first held in 1910. The tournament held at the 1920 Summer Olympics is recognized as the first Ice Hockey World Championship. From 1920 to 1968, the Olympic hockey tournament was also considered the World Championship for that year. The first World Championship that was held as an individual event was in 1930 in which twelve nations participated. Trail Smoke Eaters (senior)
The Trail Smoke Eaters (previously known as the ''Trail Hockey Club'') were a senior-level men's ice hockey team from Trail, British Columbia, that played from 1926 to 1987. They are recognized as being one of the best senior hockey teams in Canadian history. The Smoke Eaters won their first Allan Cup in 1938; they won the 1939 World Ice Hockey Championships and the 1961 World Ice Hockey Championships; and they won another Allan Cup in 1962.
