Oxyderces Viridipes
''Oxyderces viridipes'' is a species of broad-nosed weevils in the family Curculionidae. This species is endemic to Colombia, commonly found in Medellín and surrounding areas, but has been incidentally collected in the United States. Taxonomy ''Oxyderces viridipes'' was described for the first time by Carl Henrik Boheman in 1840, page 179, under the genus ''Platyomus.'' It belongs to the subfamily Entiminae, tribe Eustylini. The taxonomic status of the species requires verification, since it can be easily confused with the genus ''Compsus''. The holotype for ''Oxyderces viridipes'' is housed at the Swedish Museum of Natural History (NHRS-JLKB000022891; identified as ''Compsus viridipes''). Carl Henrik Boheman
Carl Henrik Boheman (10 July 1796 – 2 November 1868) was a Swedish entomologist. Boheman studied at Lund University and trained as an officer, participating in the invasion of Norway in 1814. He had been an enthusiastic entomologist since childhood, and was called by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1841 to the position of professor and keeper of the Department of Entomology of the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm. He had been made a member of the Academy in 1838. He retired from the Museum in 1867. Boheman was a specialist in coleoptera, and particularly in Chrysomelidae and Rhynchophora, he collaborated in particular with Carl Johan Schönherr (1772–1848) in his great work on Curculionidae. Prothorax
The prothorax is the foremost of the three segments in the thorax of an insect, and bears the first pair of legs. Its principal sclerites (exoskeletal plates) are the pronotum (dorsal), the prosternum (ventral), and the propleuron (lateral) on each side. The prothorax never bears wings in extant insects (except in some cases of atavism), though some fossil groups possessed wing-like projections.
