Oxfordshire Women Cricket Team
The Oxfordshire Women's cricket team is the women's representative cricket team for the English historic county of Oxfordshire. They play their home games at Akeman Street, Chesterton and are captained by Abi Currie. In 2019, they played in Division Three of the final season of the Women's County Championship, and have since competed in the Women's Twenty20 Cup. They are partnered with the regional side Southern Vipers. History Oxfordshire Women played their first recorded match in 1948, against Buckinghamshire Women. They went on to play various one-off matches, often as a combined team with Berkshire, including games against touring Netherlands and Australia sides. Oxfordshire joined the national county structure in 2007, competing in the County Challenge Cup, finishing bottom of their group in their first season. Chesterton, Oxfordshire
Chesterton is a village and civil parish on Gagle Brook, a tributary of the Langford Brook in north Oxfordshire. The village is about southwest of the market town of Bicester. The village has sometimes been called Great Chesterton to distinguish it from the hamlet of Little Chesterton, about to the south in the same parish. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 850. Archaeology About west of the village, by the crossroads of Akeman Street and the former Oxford – Brackley main road (now the B430) is a prehistoric tumulus. Chesterton village is on the course of Akeman Street, the Roman road between Watling Street and Cirencester, about northwest of Alchester Roman Town. 2018 Women's County Championship
The 2018 Women's County One-Day Championship was the 22nd cricket Women's County Championship season. It ran from the beginning of May to the beginning of June and saw 33 county teams and teams representing Scotland, Wales and the Netherlands compete in a series of divisions. Hampshire Women won the County Championship as winners of the top division with Yorkshire finishing runners-up. The 2010 Women's County One-Day Championship was the 14th cricket Women's County Championship season. It ran from May to September and saw 33 county teams and teams representing Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Netherlands compete in a series of divisions. Sussex Women won the County Championship as winners of the top division, their fifth title. Competition format Teams played matches within a series of divisions with the winners of the top division being crowned County Champions. Matches were played using a one day format with 50 overs per side. The championship worked on a points system, with placings decided by average points of completed games. The points are awarded as follows: Win: 10 points + bonus points. Tie: 5 points + bonus points. Loss: Bonus points. Abandoned or cancelled: Match not counted to average. Lauren Renee Down (born 7 May 1995) is a New Zealand cricketer who has played for Auckland and New Zealand. She made her Women's One Day International cricket (WODI) debut for New Zealand Women against the West Indies Women on 4 March 2018. In January 2020, she was named in New Zealand's Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) squad for their series against South Africa. Finty May Trussler (born 8 May 2003) is an English cricketer who currently plays for Hampshire and Southern Vipers. She plays as a right-arm leg break bowler. Domestic career Trussler made her county debut in 2021, for Hampshire against Middlesex in the Women's Twenty20 Cup. She went on to be the leading wicket-taker across the whole tournament, taking 16 wickets in her 6 matches at an average of 6.50. Alice Zoe Monaghan (born 20 March 2000) is an English cricketer who currently plays for Hampshire, Southern Vipers and London Spirit. An all-rounder, she is a right-handed batter and right-arm medium bowler. Captain (cricket)
The captain of a cricket team, often referred to as the skipper, is the appointed leader, having several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of the other players.
