Oxford High School (OHS) is a public high school in Oxford, Mississippi. It educates 1,210 students in grades nine through twelve. It is part of the Oxford School District. Its boundary includes almost all of Oxford, the University census-designated place, and some unincorporated areas. History High-school students first attended public school in Oxford in 1886 when a building was erected to accommodate twelve grades of students. The University High School was the primary school in Oxford until 1963 when the town was integrated and the Oxford School District was formed. As the city of Oxford grew, so did the student population. A transition to class 5A in 2008 was followed up by a move to 6A, Mississippi's highest classification. Oxford, Mississippi
Oxford is a city and college town in the U.S. state of Mississippi. Oxford lies 75 miles (121 km) south-southeast of Memphis, Tennessee, and is the county seat of Lafayette County. Founded in 1837, it was named after the British city of Oxford. The University of Mississippi, also known as "Ole Miss" is located adjacent to the city. Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. DeKaylin Zecharius "DK" Metcalf (born December 14, 1997) is an American football wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Ole Miss. Houston Astros
The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team based in Houston, Texas. Ole Miss Rebels Baseball
The Ole Miss Rebels baseball team represents the University of Mississippi in NCAA Division I college baseball. The team participates in the West Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They are currently coached by Mike Bianco and play at Swayze Field. They have competed in the College World Series six times, with their first national championship coming in 2022. History The University of Mississippi has games recorded as early as 1893. What is commonly referred to as the "modern era" is considered to have started in 1947. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Graeber Crawley Kessinger (born August 25, 1997) is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Houston Astros organization. Amateur career Kessinger attended Oxford High School in Oxford, Mississippi. He was drafted out of high school in the 2016 MLB draft, going in the 26th Round to the San Diego Padres, however he put his professional career on hold to attend the University of Mississippi to play college baseball for the Ole Miss Rebels. As a freshman at Ole Miss in 2017, Kessinger batted only .175 with two home runs and 16 runs batted in (RBIs). In his sophomore year at Ole Miss, Kessinger improved to hit .300 with 8 home runs and 37 RBIs. Sam Kendricks (born September 7, 1992) is an American pole vaulter. He is a three-time indoor and six-time outdoor national champion (2014–2019), the 2016 Olympics bronze medalist, and the 2017 World Champion. In 2019, Kendricks set the American pole vault record at 6.06 m, tying him with Steve Hooker for fourth all time.
