Grae Kessinger
Graeber Crawley Kessinger (born August 25, 1997) is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Houston Astros organization. Amateur career Kessinger attended Oxford High School in Oxford, Mississippi. He was drafted out of high school in the 2016 MLB draft, going in the 26th Round to the San Diego Padres, however he put his professional career on hold to attend the University of Mississippi to play college baseball for the Ole Miss Rebels. As a freshman at Ole Miss in 2017, Kessinger batted only .175 with two home runs and 16 runs batted in (RBIs). In his sophomore year at Ole Miss, Kessinger improved to hit .300 with 8 home runs and 37 RBIs. After the 2018 season, he briefly played collegiate summer baseball with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League. In Kessinger's junior and final year at Ole Miss, he hit .330 with seven home runs and 50 RBIs. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. More hit balls go to the shortstop than to any other position, as there are more right-handed hitters in baseball than left-handed hitters, and most hitters have a tendency to pull the ball slightly. ''Collegiate Baseball Newspaper'' (also known as ''Collegiate Baseball Magazine'' and ''Collegiate Baseball'') is an American publication based in Arizona that considers itself the "voice of amateur baseball" which has been published for over 40 years. The publication gives out several awards: ''Collegiate Baseball'' Player of the Year, ''Collegiate Baseball'' Coach of the Year, and ''Collegiate Baseball'' All-Americans. It is published twice a month from January until June, and then once each in September and October. The "Collegiate Baseball" newspaper poll is college sports' oldest baseball poll. A ranking of the top 30 teams is released prior to the season, weekly throughout the season, and after the conclusion of the College World Series. It started with the 1957 college baseball season. The Clarion-Ledger
''The Clarion Ledger'' is an American daily newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi. It is the second-oldest company in the state of Mississippi, and is one of the few newspapers in the nation that continues to circulate statewide. It is an operating division of Gannett River States Publishing Corporation, owned by Gannett. History The paper traces its roots to ''The Eastern Clarion,'' founded in Jasper County, Mississippi, in 1837. Later that year, it was sold and moved to Meridian, Mississippi. After the American Civil War, it was moved to Jackson, the capital, and merged with ''The Standard''. It soon became known as ''The Clarion''. In 1888, ''The Clarion'' merged with the ''State Ledger'' and became known as the ''Daily Clarion-Ledger''. Four employees who were displaced by the merger founded their own newspaper, ''The Jackson Evening Post'', in 1892. Keith Kessinger
Robert Keith Kessinger (born February 19, 1967) is an American former Major League Baseball player who played as a shortstop in 11 games for the Cincinnati Reds in 1993. He had been originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 36th round of the 1989 amateur draft, then the Reds purchased his contract in 1991. His ML debut came on September 15, 1993 against the Atlanta Braves, where Kessinger went 1 for 2 in that initial game. Kessinger was the head baseball coach at Arkansas State University from July 2002 to June 2008, compiling an overall 148–178 record. He spent two years prior to that as head coach at Carson–Newman College where he compiled a 66–47 record. He also served as an assistant baseball coach at the University of Mississippi for four seasons, where he had previously been a second-team All SEC shortstop. Don Kessinger
Donald Eulon Kessinger (born July 17, 1942) is an American former professional baseball player and manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a shortstop from to , most prominently as a member of the Chicago Cubs where, he was a six-time All-Star player and a two-time Gold Glove Award winner. He ended his career playing for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Kessinger was considered one of the best shortstops in baseball. For nine consecutive seasons he formed a productive middle-infield partnership with second baseman Glenn Beckert. He is also notable for being the last player-manager in American League history. Corpus Christi Hooks
The Corpus Christi Hooks are a Minor League Baseball team of the Texas League and the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. They are located in Corpus Christi, Texas, and are named for the city's association with fishing. The team is owned by the Houston Astros. The Hooks play their home games at Whataburger Field, which opened in 2005 and is located on Corpus Christi's waterfront. The Quad Cities River Bandits are a Minor League Baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Their home games are played at Modern Woodmen Park (formerly John O'Donnell Stadium) in Davenport, Iowa, one of the Quad Cities. Tri-City ValleyCats
The Tri-City ValleyCats (often shortened to Cats) are a professional independent baseball team based in Troy, New York. The Tri-City name refers to the three nearby cities of Albany, Schenectady, and Troy which make up New York State's Capital District. From 2002 to 2020, they were members of Minor League Baseball's New York–Penn League (NYPL) as the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Houston Astros. With MLB's reorganization of the minor leagues after the 2020 season, the ValleyCats were not selected to continue in affiliated baseball.
