Ellinora Jillian Overton (born 13 June 1974) is an Australian former swimmer. She competed in the backstroke and medley swimmer at three consecutive Summer Olympics for Australia, starting in 1992. Olympic career After narrowly missing a bronze medal at the 1991 World Championships in the 200-metre individual medley, Overton went on to a 5th-place finish at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. She won the bronze medal in the 200-metre individual medley at the inaugural 1993 FINA Short Course World Championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, followed by the gold medal two years later at the 1995 FINA Short Course World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. The Overton window is the range of policies politically acceptable to the mainstream population at a given time. It is also known as the window of discourse. Background The term is named after American policy analyst Joseph Overton, who stated that an idea's political viability depends mainly on whether it falls within this range, rather than on politicians' individual preferences. According to Overton, the window frames the range of policies that a politician can recommend without appearing too extreme to gain or keep public office given the climate of public opinion at that time. Jeffrey Laurence Overton (born May 28, 1983) is an American professional golfer. Overton was born in Evansville, Indiana; he graduated from Evansville North High School, leading the Huskies to two State Golf Finals; he finished as State Runner-Up in 1999 (as a sophomore) and then led the Huskies to the State Championship in 2000 as a Junior. Hall Franklin Overton (February 23, 1920 – November 24, 1972) was an American composer, jazz pianist and music teacher. He was born in Bangor, Michigan, the first of the three sons of Stanford and Ruth (Barnes) Overton. He grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Life After taking piano lessons as a youngster, Overton realized he'd have to travel beyond his small Midwestern town to find the kind of music instruction he wanted. His high school music teacher recognized Overton's gift and recommended he attend The Chicago Musical College after graduation. Overton studied theory and composition there from 1940 to 1942. He then entered the armed services and served in overseas combat duty with the U.S. 3rd Armored Division until 1945. It was during his time in the service that he learned to play jazz. Guy William Fitzroy Overton (8 June 1919 – 7 September 1993) was a New Zealand international cricketer who played three Test matches in 1953–54. In domestic cricket he represented Otago from 1945–46 to 1955–56. Early career A sheep farmer in Southland, R.T. Brittenden, ''New Zealand Cricketers'', A.H. & A.W. Fred Overton
Fred Henry Overton Jr. (November 9, 1938 – October 27, 2019) was a former head basketball coach at Murray State University and a nationwide motivational speaker. He was a former student of Charles Stanley's Luther Rice Seminary. Basketball Overton began his coaching career as an assistant at Austin Peay State University in 1963. In 1969, he moved cross country to coach at Pepperdine University. In 1971, he returned to the Ohio Valley Conference to serve as assistant to Cal Luther at Murray State University. In 1974, he was elevated to the head coaching position. Overton served as head coach for four seasons at Murray State, with his best season in 1976–77, when his team posted a 17-10 overall record and finished tied for second in the OVC with a 9-5 record.
