Ove Joensen
Ove Joensen (3 December 1948 – 26 November 1987The date of the recovery of his body, and as shown on his grave marker) was a Faroese seaman and adventurer, the first to row from the Faroe Islands to Denmark. Early life Ove Joensen, born in 1948 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, was the son of a fisherman and after moving to the Island of Nólsoy had a seafaring career. Ocean crossing In 1984, inspired by Colin Quincey, the first man to row across the Tasman Sea between New Zealand and Australia, he built his 30-foot boat ''Diana Victoria'' at Nólsoy, to row the from the Faroes to Copenhagen in Denmark. On his first attempt later that year the boat was damaged when visiting a ship. Diverting to the Shetland Islands, he was towed in from Eshaness by the Aith lifeboat. The following year Joensen's attempt was defeated by adverse winds after he had again reached Aith. Esha Ness Lighthouse
Eshaness Lighthouse is situated on the Northmavine peninsula in the north-west of the Shetland Islands, Scotland. It sometimes rendered as Esha Ness Lighthouse. The lighthouse has a tapering, square tower high and was built by David Alan Stevenson, one of the famous 'lighthouse' Stevensons, between 1925 and 1929. It was built from concrete because of the unsuitability of local stone. It flashes white every 12 seconds and has a nominal range of . The light was automated in 1974 and the former lighthouse keepers' accommodation is now holiday accommodation. It is owned by the Shetland Amenity Trust. Skálafjørður
Skálafjørður ( da, Skålefjord) is a fjord in Eysturoy and the longest in the Faroe Islands. Name Skála is a town situated on the western shore of the fjord. Its name (''Skáli'', genitive case ''skála'') means 'hall', 'assembly hall' or 'isolated hut' in Faroese. The southern part of the fjord near Runavík is historically also known as Kongshavn (''King's Harbour'') in Danish, referring to the excellent shelter in the natural harbour. Geography The Skálafjørður is the longest fjord in the Faroe Islands. It measures (Equidistant line) from the village of Skálafjørður to where it fuses with the Tangafjørður, between Raktangi (near Strendur) and Toftir. The deepest points are two different spots at circa depth near the villages of Runavík and Søldarfjørður respectively. Aith
Aith, (Shetland dialect: Eid, Old Norse: ''Eið'', meaning Isthmus, cf Eday), is a village on the Northern coast of the West Shetland Mainland, Scotland at the southern end of Aith Voe, some west of Lerwick. Aith lies on the B9071 that runs south to the junction with the A971 (which links Lerwick to the west of Shetland) at the village of Bixter and North East via East Burrafirth to the junction with the A970 (which links Lerwick to the North) at the village of Voe. A single track road leads north from Aith along the west shoreline of Aith Voe to Vementry.
