Ousmane William Mbaye
Ousmane William Mbaye (born 1952), is a Senegalese filmmaker. Mbaye is best known as the director of the critically acclaim documentary ''Mère-Bi'' and films ''Doomi Ngacc'', ''Fresque'' and ''Kemtiyu, Cheikh Anta''. Apart from filmmaking, he is also an executive producer, line producer, screenwriter, foreign producer, director of photography, sound recordist, production manager, editor, and producer. Personal life He was born in 1952 in Paris, France. His mother, Annette Mbaye d'Erneville is Senegalese woman of letters. Career Mbaye trained at the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français (Free Conservatory of French Cinema). Then he studied at the University of Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis where he started filmmaking. After the graduation, he moved to Senegal. Then he worked as an assistant director. Cheikh Anta Diop
Cheikh Anta Diop (29 December 1923 – 7 February 1986) was a Senegalese historian, anthropologist, physicist, and politician who studied the human race's origins and pre-colonial African culture. Diop's work is considered foundational to the theory of Afrocentricity, though he himself never described himself as an Afrocentrist. The questions he posed about cultural bias in scientific research contributed greatly to the postcolonial turn in the study of African civilizations. The Henriette-Bathily Women's Museum (in French: ''Musée de la Femme Henriette-Bathily'') is a museum which was located on Gorée, an island on the coast of Senegal, across from the House of Slaves museum. In May 2015, it moved to Dakar, at the Place du Souvenir Africain et de la Diaspora (Corniche Ouest). The Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (Festival panafricain du cinéma et de la télévision de Ouagadougou or FESPACO) is a film festival in Burkina Faso, held biennially in Ouagadougou, where the organization is based. It accepts for competition only films by African filmmakers and chiefly produced in Africa. FESPACO is scheduled in March every second year, two weeks after the last Saturday of February. Its opening night is held in the Stade du 4-Août, the national stadium. Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) is an important biannual African film festival. The most prestigious award given out at the festival is the "Étalon d'or de Yennenga" (Golden Stallion of Yennenga), named in reference to the mythical founder of the Mossi empire. The "Étalon d'or de Yennenga" is awarded to the African film that best shows "Africa's realities".
