Our Lady Of The Fields
Our Lady of the Fields (Italian: ''Madonna dei Campi''; French: ''Notre Dame des Champs''; Spanish: ''La Virgen del Campo''; also known as Our Lady of Prayer) is a title of Mary mother of Jesus in Roman Catholic Marian veneration. The name is based on a sanctuary in the countryside of Stezzano, near Bergamo, where Marian apparitions have been recorded since the 13th century. Veneration of Mary under this name was taken to Canada by Jesuit Xavier Donald Macleod, who reports a Marian apparition in a village of New France in 1841. Mary is venerated under this name by the Glenmary Home Missioners, a Catholic society of priests and brothers that serve the rural United States. A Marian apparition is a reported supernatural appearance by Mary, the mother of Jesus, or a series of related such appearances during a period of time. In the Catholic Church, in order for a reported appearance to be classified as a Marian apparition, the person or persons who claim to see Mary (the "seers") must claim that they see her visually located in their environment. If the person claims to hear Mary but not see her, this is known as an interior locution, not an apparition. Also excluded from the category of apparitions are dreams, visions experienced in the imagination, the claimed perception of Mary in ordinarily-explainable natural phenomena, and miracles associated with Marian artwork, such as weeping statues. The Brothers of Our Lady of the Fields ( ''Frères de Notre Dame des Champs'') were a small Canadian Roman Catholic congregation active between 1902 and 1930. History Joseph-Onésime Brousseau became curé at St-Damien de Buckland in 1882. It was a small, poor, rural parish. In 1892, he built a convent-hospital to shelter orphans and the elderly and founded the ''Congrégation des sœurs de Notre-Dame du Perpétuel Secours'' to staff it. In order to counter the exodus of French-Canadian settlers to the industrialized regions of the United States, projects were developed by the Colonization Society of the Diocese of Quebec. Brousseau saw this as a method to support the French-Canadian Catholic culture in Quebec, and joined the movement. Madonna di Campiglio (german: Sankt Maria im Pein) is a village and a ski resort in northeast Italy. It is a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' of Pinzolo. Notre-Dame-des-Champs () is a station on line 12 of the Paris Métro in the 6th arrondissement. History The station opened on 5 November 1910 as part of the original section of the Nord-Sud Company's line A between Porte de Versailles and Notre-Dame-de-Lorette. Notre-Dame-des-Champs is a Roman Catholic church located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. The church is named after the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of the Fields. History Originally located on the site of the church was a Roman temple dedicated to the god Mercury. After the Christianization of France, the temple was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and was named Notre-Dame-des-Vignes. Robert II made additions to the church and rededicated it to both the Virgin Mary and Saint Denis. The church was later made into a priory by the Benedictine monks of Marmoutier Abbey, renaming it Notre-Dame-des-Champs in honor of Our Lady of the Fields.
