Ottar Gladtvet
Alf Ottar Gladtvet (September 1, 1890 – June 9, 1962) was a Norwegian filmmaker and pioneer in the film industry. He made documentaries, feature films, commercials, animated films, newsreels. and many short films. He also worked as a cinema machinist and cinema director. Family Gladtvet was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He was the son of the hardware dealer and cinema owner Carl Otto Severin Gladtvet (1863–1918) and Agnes Elisabet Roshauw (1862–?). He was married to the actress Solveig Gladtvet (1903–1951). Feature films Gladtvet directed two feature films in the 1910s. The first feature film was the western-inspired '' Overfaldet paa postaapnerens datter eller Kampen om pengebrevet'' from 1913. Gladtvet was only partly involved in the pioneering days of Norwegian cinema, and he sometimes acted as Peter Lykke-Seest's photographer. ''Blandt Syd-Amerikas urskovsindianere'' (''Among the Primeval Forest Indians of South America'') is a Swedish–Norwegian documentary film about Gustaf Bolinder's ethnographic expedition to South America from 1920 to 1921. The film was shot by Ottar Gladtvet, who took part in the expedition, by agreement between Bolinder and the film's producer, Gustav Lund. The film documents the expedition, whose purpose was to record the endangered Wayuu, Arhuaco, and Barí native cultures in Colombia and Venezuela. ''Revolutionens datter'' (The Daughter of the Revolution) is a Norwegian silent film from 1918 directed by Ottar Gladtvet. It has been restored and preserved. Plot The film tells the story of Albert Fjeld, a worker at a shipyard, and Claire Staalhammer, the shipyard manager's daughter. Albert acts as a spokesman for the workers when they make a demand for a pay rise, which Staalhammer rejects. The workers do not accept this, and they start a revolt. Albert, who has fallen in love with Claire, manages to save her when the workers storm the manager's residence, and they flee to a neighboring country, where Claire gets to live with a friend of her father, the landowner Dalton. Dalton's son tries to impress Claire, but she is not interested in him. Claire is eventually told that order has been restored in her home country, and that she has inherited almost a million kroner. ''Overfaldet paa postaapnerens datter eller Kampen om pengebrevet'' (The Assault on the Postman's Daughter, or The Battle for the Money Order) is a Norwegian silent film from 1913 directed by Ottar Gladtvet. It was a Western-inspired melodrama. The film is considered lost. Plot For many years, the local postman John Munkevold has delivered the mail in his large district. In recent years, however, he has been plagued by gout, and therefore his daughter Ingrid often collects the mail at the station for him. Ingrid is also sent there on this day, and at the station she meets her boyfriend Harry Brown, who works on the train. She receives the mail sack and a letter with a money order. Solveig Ingerid Gladtvet (née Olsen, December 12, 1893 – August 4, 1951) was a Norwegian actress. Life and career Solveig Gladtvet was born in 1893 in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. She married the Norwegian filmmaker Ottar Gladtvet in 1914. She appeared in two silent films directed by her husband in the 1910s. She died in 1951. ''Bergen'' is a 2022 Turkish biographical film. The film stars Farah Zeynep Abdullah as lead singer Bergen, who has become one of the symbols of violence against women in Turkey. ''Trysil-Knut'' is a Norwegian film from 1942. Rasmus Breistein directed this skiing melodrama during the German occupation of Norway. It tells the story of the legendary skier Knut from Trysil, an ardent patriot at the beginning of the 1800s who uses his skiing skills to prevent war from breaking out between Norway and Sweden. Knut also wins back a property that he was cheated out of and his "princess." Like many of the films from the interwar period or the occupation years, this is an adventure story. Breistein's point of departure for the story was a popular novel by Rudolf Muus from 1914, and he was also inspired by Bernt Lund's poem from 1861 and by 's story from 1909. "Vi vil oss et land" (lit. 'We Want Ourselves a Country') is a famous phrase in the context of Norwegian nationalism, derived from a poem by Per Sivle. It has been evoked by many different groups, including during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, when an arrest order was issued on the deceased Sivle. Original use It is taken from a poem by Per Sivle (1857–1904) issued in 1895, ten years before Norway gained its independence. Sivle's poem, titled "Vi vil os et Land -", was published in the poetry collection '' Bersøglis- og andre Viser'' from 1895. It was originally written as the last verse of the occasional poem "Her spirer i Norge", written for a procession in support of universal male suffrage organized by Kristiania Liberal Party in 1894.
