Ostap Steckiw
Ostap Steckiw ( ua, Остап Стецьків) (March 14, 1924 – April 13, 2001) was a Canadian soccer player who earned 1 cap for the Canadian national side against the United States in 1957, scoring one goal. During World War II he was a member of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. He was awarded the UPA Golden Cross. Career He played club football for ST Ukraina Lviv, Phönix Karlsruhe, Charleroi, Nice, Valenciennes, Lyon, Toronto Ukrainians, and Rochester Ukrainians. In 1942 Steckiw became the champion of Halychyna playing for ST Ukraina Lwów. In 1957 he was the Canadian Challenger's Cup holder playing for Montreal Ukrainians. International career He played a single game for Canada in Saint Louis against the United States along with two other Ukrainian Canadians: Mike Bereza and Walt Zakaluznyj. The Canada men's national soccer team (french: Équipe du Canada de soccer masculin) represents Canada in international soccer competitions since 1924. 1974 National Soccer League Season
The 1974 National Soccer League season was the fifty-first season under the National Soccer League (NSL) name. The season began in April and concluded in late October with Toronto Croatia defeating Toronto Homer for the NSL Championship. The regular-season title was clinched by the Serbian White Eagles, and as a result, faced the Challenge Trophy champions Calgary Springer Kickers for the Canadian Open Cup and successfully claimed the title. The Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League was a soccer league in Canada. The league operated for six seasons from 1961 to 1966 across four cities in two Canadian provinces and one American state. In the 1960s, the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League was one of four major leagues in Canadian soccer alongside the Pacific Coast League, the Western Canada Soccer League, and the National Soccer League of Ontario/Quebec. The National Soccer League was a soccer league in Canada that existed from 1926 to 1997. Teams were primarily based in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. A player-coach (also playing coach, captain-coach, or player-manager) is a member of a sports team who simultaneously holds both playing and coaching duties. Wolodymyr "Walter" Zakaluzny (May 2, 1925 – September 1, 2013) was a Canadian international soccer player who earned two caps for the national team in 1957. He made his professional debut for Sian Przemyśl. After World War II, Zakaluzny moved to West Germany where he lived in a displaced persons camp from 1945 to 1950. He played soccer for a number of teams in Germany such as Ukraina Ulm, Phönix Karlsruhe, Dnister Zuffenhausen, Sitch Regensburg, Jahn Regensburg and Schwaben Augsburg. As a Ukrainian immigrant to Canada, Zakaluzny played for a number of soccer teams in North America, including the Toronto Ukrainians, the Rochester Ukrainians, the Toronto Tridents, and the Montreal Ukrainians.
