Orre Church
Orre Church ( no, Orre kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Klepp Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Pollestad. It is the main church for the Orre parish which is part of the Jæren prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The gray, stone church was built in a long church style in 1950 using designs by the architects Gustav Helland and Endre Årreberg. The church seats about 250 people. History The church was built to replace the centuries-old Old Orre Church located in the nearby village of Orre. This church was consecrated on 28 May 1950 by the Bishop Karl Martinussen. Old Orre Church ( no, Orre gamle kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Klepp Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Orre. It formerly was the main church for the Orre parish which is part of the Jæren prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The small stone church was built in a long church style around the year 1250 using designs by English monks. The church seats about 150 people. It is situated on a small sandy strip of land between the lake Orrevatnet and the Orrestranda beach along the North Sea. Karl Martinussen
Karl Marthinussen (1890–1965) was a Norwegian theologian and priest. He served as a bishop of the Diocese of Stavanger from 1949 until 1960. Personal life Bishop Marthinussen was born on 26 November 1890 in Bergen, Norway. He was married to Borghild Haugland. He died in 1965. Education and career He graduated from the University of Christiania in 1914 with a Cand.theol. degree. He was hired as a priest at the St. Jakob parish in Bergen from 1916 until 1930. In 1932, he became the parish priest for the Sandvik Church parish in Bergen. In 1934, he was named the chairman for the Christian Democratic Party in Bergen.
