Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles are an American professional baseball team based in Baltimore. The Orioles compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) American League East, East division. As one of the American League's eight charter teams in 1901, the franchise spent its first year as a major league club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, to become the St. Louis Browns in 1902. After 52 years in St. Louis, the franchise was purchased in November 1953 by a syndicate of Baltimore business and civic interests led by attorney and civic activist Clarence Miles and Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro Jr. The team's current owner is American trial lawyer Peter Angelos. The Baltimore Orioles were a 19th-century professional baseball team that competed from to , first in the American Association and later in the National League. This early Orioles franchise, which featured numerous future inductees to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, finished in first place for three consecutive seasons (1894–1896) and won the Temple Cup national championship series in 1896 and 1897. Despite their success, the dominant Orioles were contracted out of the National League after the 1899 season, when the league reduced in size from 12 members to eight. Upon the foundation of the American League in 1901, a reorganized Baltimore Orioles franchise competed as a charter member, before relocating to New York City after two seasons, where they were replaced by the team that is better known as the New York Yankees. The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the New York City borough of the Bronx. The Orioles
The Orioles were an American R&B group of the late 1940s and early 1950s, one of the earliest such vocal groups who established the basic pattern for the doo-wop sound. The Orioles are generally acknowledged as R&B's first vocal group. Baltimore natives, they blended rhythm with group harmonies. Dubbing themselves after Maryland's state bird, the Orioles started the trend of bird groups (The Cardinals, The Crows, The Flamingos, The Larks, The Penguins, The Ravens, The Wrens, etc.). Charlotte Knights
The Charlotte Knights are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League and the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. They are located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and play their home games at Truist Field, which opened in 2014 and is located in Uptown Charlotte. The team previously played at Knights Park (1976–1988), Knights Castle (1989), and Knights Stadium (1990–2013). The Florida Complex League Orioles are a Rookie-level affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, competing in the Florida Complex League of Minor League Baseball. Before 2021, the team was known as the Gulf Coast League Orioles. The team plays its home games in Sarasota, Florida, at Ed Smith Stadium, which became the spring training home to the major-league Orioles at the start of the 2010 season. History The team first competed from 1991 to 2003 in the Gulf Coast League. After not fielding a team for three seasons, the team returned in 2007 and has competed continuously since then. The Baltimore Orioles are a defunct minor league ice hockey team that operated out of Carlin's Iceland from 1932 until 1942. The team was Baltimore's first professional hockey club. The Orioles played in the Tri-State Hockey League during the 1932–33 season. In 1933, the Orioles joined the Eastern Amateur Hockey League and remained there until 1942. The Orioles were coached by Billy Boyd (1933–35), Gord Fraser (1935–36), Bill Hines (1938–41), and Elmer Piper (1941–42). The Orioles won the EAHL championship in the 1939–40 season. The team disbanded in 1942, when it lost players to enlistment for service in World War II. The Orioles' EAHL replacement in Baltimore were the United States Coast Guard Cutters, a team made of enlisted sailors. The Dublin Irish were a minor league baseball team based in Dublin, Georgia. The team played in the Georgia State League from 1949 until 1956. However the team was first named the Dublin Green Sox. In 1952 they were first an affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, however the following year they became affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team stayed affiliated with the Pirates until 1956. Dublin was represented again 1958 in the Georgia–Florida League, as the Dublin Orioles. The Orioles were managed by Earl Weaver, who was inducted in the Hall of Fame in . The Cordele Reds were a minor league baseball team based in Cordele, Georgia in various seasons from 1906-1955. History Cordele played in the Class-D Georgia–Florida League from 1936–1942 and 1946–1955. The city was originally represented by a team in the Georgia State League in 1906, with a team simply noted as Cordele.
