Orrin Keepnews (March 2, 1923 – March 1, 2015) was an American jazz writer and record producer known for founding Riverside Records and Milestone Records, for freelance work, and for his work at other labels. Biography Early life Keepnews was born to a Jewish family in The Bronx, New York, on March 2, 1923.. His mother was a public school teacher and his father worked for the Department of Welfare. Keepnews graduated from Columbia University with a degree in English in 1943. Subsequently, he was involved in bombing raids over Japan in the final months of World War II, before returning for graduate studies at Columbia in 1946. While working as an editor for the book publishers Simon & Schuster, Keepnews moonlighted as editor of ''The Record Changer'', a small jazz magazine, after fellow Columbia graduate Bill Grauer became its owner in 1948. Orin S. Wilf (born 1974) is an American real estate developer, the founder and president of Skyline Developers, a division of Garden Homes, a company founded by his grandfather, Harry Wilf. Orrin Porter Rockwell (June 28, 1813 or June 25, 1815 – June 9, 1878) was a figure of the Wild West period of American history. A lawman in the Utah Territory, he was nicknamed ''Old Port'' and ''The Destroying Angel of Mormondom''. Rockwell served as a bodyguard, and was a personal friend, of Latter Day Saint movement founder Joseph Smith. Orin O'Brien (born 1935) is an American double bassist. She has been a member of the New York Philharmonic since joining in 1966 under the direction of Leonard Bernstein; she was the first woman to join the orchestra.
