Orillia Tundras
Orillia Tundras were a senior ice hockey, senior ice hockey team from Orillia, Ontario, Canada. The team last played in the 2012–13 season in the Allan Cup Hockey league. They competed for the Allan Cup. History Initially, the Cooks Bay Canucks attempted to join the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League, but their application was rejected by the league. They then applied for expansion in Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League and were accepted. The team started the 2007-08 season as the Cooks Bay Canucks but were renamed the Simcoe County Canucks after they started to play their home games in the Coldwater and District Community Centre. At that time a new owner and management group became involved and at the second game of the playoff series with the Frankford Huskies, they announced a sponsorship deal with Sunrise Toyota, a local Toyota dealership and the renaming of the team as the Simcoe County Tundras. Orillia
Orillia is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is in Simcoe County between Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe. Although it is geographically located within Simcoe County, the city is a single-tier municipality. It is part of the Huronia region of Central Ontario. The population in 2021 was 33,411. It was incorporated as a village in 1867, but the history of what is today the City of Orillia dates back at least several thousand years. Archaeologists have uncovered evidence of fishing by the Huron and Iroquois peoples in the area over 4,000 years ago, and of sites used by Aboriginal peoples for hundreds of years for trading, hunting, and fishing. Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose Junior eligibility has expired. Allan Cup
The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the national senior amateur men's ice hockey champions of Canada. It was donated by Sir Montagu Allan of Ravenscrag, Montreal, and has been competed for since 1909. The current champions are the Lacombe Generals, who captured the 2019 Allan Cup in Lacombe, Alberta. History In 1908, a split occurred in the competition of ice hockey in Canada. The top amateur teams left the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, which allowed professionals, to form the new Inter-Provincial Amateur Hockey Union (IPAHU), a purely amateur league. The WOAA Senior AA Hockey League is a Canadian senior ice hockey league governed by the Western Ontario Athletic Association. The league operates in Southwestern Ontario. History Format The league uses Hockey Canada playing rules but is not operated under the jurisdictions of the Ontario Hockey Association or Hockey Canada. The league is based in the Georgian Triangle and Southwestern Ontario. The league has been in existence since 1943, one year after the WOAA itself was established, and has entertained large crowds with local former Junior Hockey players and the odd former professional player. The Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League, or EOSHL, is a top Senior ice hockey league in Eastern Ontario that operated from 2003 to 2008, merged into the Major Hockey League in 2008 and resumed its operations from 2019 onwards. The EOSHL is governed by the Ontario Hockey Association. History The EOSHL became a sanctioned Senior "A" league in 2003.
