Orford is a provincial electoral district in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Magog, Orford, Stanstead and Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley. It was created for the 1973 election from parts of the Shefford, Sherbrooke and Stanstead electoral districts. Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley is a municipality in the Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec, Canada. Located along Quebec Route 108 on Little Lake Magog, it is the home of the "Marais" birdwatching sanctuary, the Eglise Sainte Catherine de Hatley, as well as the Dominique Savio primary School. Shefford (provincial Electoral District)
Shefford is a former provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. As of its final election, it included the cities of Granby and Waterloo. It was created for the 1867 election (and existed prior to that in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 2008. It disappeared in the 2012 election. The western half became Granby, while most of the eastern portion joined Brome-Missisquoi. 1973 Quebec General Election
The 1973 Quebec general election was held on October 29, 1973 to elect members to National Assembly of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Premier Robert Bourassa, won re-election, defeating the ''Parti Québécois'', led by René Lévesque, and the '' Union Nationale'' (UN). The Liberals won the largest majority government in the province's history, with 102 seats. In the process, they reduced the opposition to just eight seats (six PQ, two créditistes) in total. The ''Parti Québécois'' held its own, losing only one seat, and despite having fewer seats, became the official Opposition, although PQ leader René Lévesque failed to win a seat in the Assembly. Stanstead is a town in the Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, located on the Canada–United States border across from Derby Line, Vermont. The Town of Stanstead was created in 1995 by the merger of the former villages of Stanstead Plain and Beebe (formerly Beebe Plain) and the Town of Rock Island. It is not to be confused with the township of Stanstead, which is nearby although not directly adjacent (the municipality of Ogden lies in between). Estrie
Estrie () is an administrative region of Quebec that comprises the Eastern Townships. ''Estrie'', a French neologism, was coined as a derivative of ''est'', "east". Originally settled by anglophones, today it is about 90 per cent francophone. Anglophones are concentrated in Lennoxville, Quebec, Lennoxville, home of the region's only English-speaking university, Bishop's University. The Eastern Townships School Board runs 20 elementary schools, three high schools, and a learning centre. The region originally consisted of 6 RCM's. Stukely-Sud, Quebec
Stukely-Sud is a village of 950 people, part of the Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. History Stukely-Sud was originally created on June 3, 1847, when the township municipality of Stukely was spitted in two different municipalities: South Stukely and North Stukely. North Stukely would eventually disband in three other municipalities ( Lawrenceville, Bonsecours and Sainte-Anne-de-la-Rochelle). On the other hand, South Stukely will continue on until 1935 when the urban part of the municipality will split off to form the new village municipality of Stukeley-Sud which still stand today.
