Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board
Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB), a state agency of Oregon in the United States, provides grants to restore watershed health and improve local streams, rivers, wetlands and natural areas in Oregon. Board membership includes commissioners of Oregon's Natural Resources Board and members of the public. History The Governor's Watershed Enhancement Board GWEB) was established in 1987 and began accepting applications to fund watershed improvement projects in November of that year. ''The World'' of Coos Bay reported the board's charge: In the primary election on May 17, 1988, Oregon voters approved Measure 1, authorizing loans for fish protection and watershed restoration. The Rogue River ( tol, yan-shuu-chit’ taa-ghii~-li~’, tkm, tak-elam) in southwestern Oregon in the United States flows about in a generally westward direction from the Cascade Range to the Pacific Ocean. Known for its salmon runs, whitewater rafting, and rugged scenery, it was one of the original eight rivers named in the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968. Colin Reginald Thorne (born September 1952) is Chair of Physical Geography at the University of Nottingham. A fluvial geomorphologist with an educational background in environmental sciences, civil engineering and physical geography; he has published 9 books and over 120 journal papers and book chapters. He was educated at Kelvin Hall School and the University of East Anglia (BSc; PhD, 1978).
