Oregon's 10th Senate District
District 10 of the Oregon State Senate comprises parts of Marion and Polk counties, including much of south and west Salem as well as Independence and Monmouth. The district is composed of Oregon House districts 19 and 20. In 2018, Republican Jackie Winters of Salem was elected to this seat, but she died in office of lung cancer on May 29, 2019. Republican Denyc Boles, who had been serving as the Representative for District 19 in the Oregon House of Representatives, was appointed on June 25, 2019 as Winters's replacement. However, during the 2020 election, Democrat Deb Patterson of Salem ousted her in to fulfill the remainder of Jackie Winters's term. She is still the current senator representing this district. 2018 Oregon Legislative Election
The 2018 elections for the Oregon Legislative Assembly determined the composition of both houses for the 80th Oregon Legislative Assembly. The Republican and Democratic parties held primary elections on May 15, 2018 with general elections on November 6, 2018. As a result of the elections, the Democratic Party expanded its advantage in both houses of the state legislature. The 2014 elections for the Oregon Legislative Assembly determined the composition of both houses of the state legislature for the 78th Oregon Legislative Assembly (2015–2016 term). The 2010 elections for the Oregon Legislative Assembly determined the composition of both houses for the 76th Oregon Legislative Assembly. Paul Evans is an American politician. He has served in the Oregon House of Representatives since 2015, representing District 20, which includes parts of Marion and Polk counties. He was the mayor of Monmouth from 1999 to 2002. Avel Gordly
Avel Louise Gordly (born February 13, 1947) is an activist, community organizer, and former politician in the U.S. state of Oregon, who in 1996 became the first African-American woman to be elected to the Oregon State Senate. She served in the Senate from 1997 to 2009. Previously, she served for five years in the Oregon House of Representatives. Early years Gordly was one of three children born in Portland, Oregon, to a mother active in local leadership within the Order of the Eastern Star and a father who worked for the railroad.
