2020 Oregon Senate Election
The 2020 Oregon State Senate election was held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, with the primary election being held on May 19, 2020. Voters in 16 of the 30 Oregon State Senate districts elected their state senators. The elections coincided with the elections for other offices, including for U.S. President. The Democratic Party kept their majority. The Oregon State Senate does not have term limits. Background Democrats had held the Oregon Senate since 2002 and the chamber was not considered competitive in 2020. 2018 Oregon Legislative Election
The 2018 elections for the Oregon Legislative Assembly determined the composition of both houses for the 80th Oregon Legislative Assembly. The Republican and Democratic parties held primary elections on May 15, 2018 with general elections on November 6, 2018. As a result of the elections, the Democratic Party expanded its advantage in both houses of the state legislature. The party gained one seat in the Oregon State Senate and three seats in the Oregon House of Representatives, bringing its advantage over the Republican Party to 18-12 and 38-22, respectively. Write-in Candidate
A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot. Fred Girod
Fred Frank Girod (born 1951) is an American politician and dentist from Oregon. He is a member of the Oregon State Senate representing the 9th district, which covers the mid-Willamette Valley, and previously served as the Senate minority leader. He was later succeeded by incumbent minority leader Tim Knopp. Early life and education Girod was born in Salem, Oregon. He graduated from Stayton High School in Stayton, Oregon. The Pacific Green Party of Oregon (PGP) is a political party in the U.S. state of Oregon, recognized by the Oregon Secretary of State. It is affiliated with the Green Party of the United States. Libertarian Party Of Oregon
The Libertarian Party of Oregon is a political party representing the national Libertarian Party in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is organized as a minor party for state election law, and recognized by the Oregon as a statewide nominating party.
