Order Of Merit Of Saxony-Anhalt
The Order of Merit of Saxony-Anhalt (german: Verdienstorden des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt) is the highest award of the German State of Saxony-Anhalt. Established 23 May 2006, the order is presented by the Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt. The total number of living recipients is limited to 300. Recipients of the order are recognized for exceptional performance over a longer period of time or an extraordinary individual performance for Saxony-Anhalt and its citizens. Individuals are considered from among the citizens and non-citizens of Saxony-Anhalt. Insignia The badge of the Order of Merit of Saxony-Anhalt is a Maltese cross enameled in white with a black and gold border. In the center of the cross is a gold medallion bearing the Coat of arms of Saxony-Anhalt. Men wear the badge of the order around the neck under the collar of the dress shirt. Edda Moser (born 27 October 1938) is a German operatic soprano. She was particularly well known for her interpretations of music by Mozart. Her 1973 recital LP ' received the Grand Prix du Disque. Life and career Moser was born in Berlin, the daughter of the musicologist Hans Joachim Moser. She is aunt to cellist Johannes Moser and pianist Benjamin Moser. She studied at the Stern Conservatory with Hermann Weißenborn and Gerty König and made her debut as Kate Pinkerton in '' Madama Butterfly'' at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1962. Siegfried Pank (born 24 March 1936) is a German cellist and viol player. He was a member of the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig from 1962 to 1980, and toured with the Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum. He turned to playing the viol in historically informed performance, and lectured cello and viol at the Musikhochschule Leipzig from 1984, as professor from 1988 to 2001. Life Born in Saalfeld in Communist East Germany, Schönheit received his first musical education in piano and organ playing from his father, the organist and choirmaster Walter Schönheit, and was a member of the ''Thüringer Sängerknaben'' in Saalfeld, which his father had newly founded, until 1978. Leo Nowak (bishop)
Leo Nowak (born 17 March 1929) was the first bishop of the newly re-erected Roman Catholic Diocese of Magdeburg, Germany, from 1994 until 2001. He was born in Magdeburg. Career Nowak was ordained a priest on 10 May 1956 for the Diocese Paderborn. On 12 February 1990 he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Magdeburg and the Titular Bishop of Cissa. He was created bishop on 24 March 1990. The main consecrator was Johannes Braun, his predecessor as Apostolic Administrator of Magdeburg, and co-consecrators were Johannes Joachim Degenhardt and Theodor Hubrich.
