Opéra Station (Paris Métro)
Opéra () is a Metro station, station on Paris Métro Line 3, Lines 3, Paris Métro Line 7, 7 and Paris Métro Line 8, 8 of the Paris Métro. It is named after the nearby Palais Garnier, Opéra Garnier. Located at the end of the Avenue de l'Opéra, it serves the district of Boulevard Haussmann. Its main entrances are located on the Place de l'Opéra, built in a marble design (instead of the characteristic iron metro entrances of Hector Guimard), to not spoil the view of the opera house. The station is connected by an underground passage to on RER A. Porte de la Villette () is a station of the Paris Métro. The origin of the commune of the Villette was a Gallo-Roman village, which grew up on the Roman road that led to eastern Flanders. About 1198, it became ''Ville Neuve Saint-Ladre'' and by 1426 it was called ''Villette-Saint-Miser-lez-Paris''. The commune became a part of Paris in 1860. Jean-Louis Charles Garnier (; 6 November 1825 – 3 August 1898) was a French architect, perhaps best known as the architect of the Palais Garnier and the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. Early life Charles Garnier was born Jean-Louis Charles Garnier on 6 November 1825 in Paris, on the Rue Mouffetard, in the present-day 5th arrondissement. His father, Jean André Garnier, 1796–1865, who was originally from Sarthe, a department of the French region of Pays de la Loire, had worked as a blacksmith, wheelwright, and coachbuilder before settling down in Paris to work in a horse-drawn carriage rental business. The Boulevard des Capucines () is a boulevard in Paris. It is one of the 'Grands Boulevards' in Paris, a chain of boulevards built through the former course of the Wall of Charles V and the Louis XIII Wall, which were destroyed on the orders of Louis XIV. The name comes from a beautiful convent of Capuchin nuns whose garden was on the south side of the boulevard prior to the French Revolution.
