Opéra Du Quai Au Foin
The Opéra du Quai au Foin was the first public theatre in Brussels. Opened on 24 January 1682, it was abandoned in 1697 and turned into a warehouse. History Under the aegis of the governor of the Habsburg Netherlands Alexandre Farnese, Gio-Battista Petrucci, royal historian, and Pierre Fariseau, a notable figure in Brussels society, hired a building on the prairies of the Grand Béguinage, on the banks of the quai au Foin, to a squire. In a few months the building was transformed into a theatre and the decor and props from the palace plays were brought to it. It was opened in 1682 and its opening-night shows lasted throughout the carnival period. Petrucci had over 140 people at his command — actors, musicians and set-operators. The first play put on was ''Egeo in Atene'', an opera by Angelo Vitali, followed by several works by Lully. Governor Of The Habsburg Netherlands
The governor ( nl, landvoogd) or governor-general () of the Habsburg Netherlands was a representative appointed by the Holy Roman emperor (1504-1556), the king of Spain (1556-1598, 1621-1706), and the archduke of Austria (1716-1794), to administer the Burgundian inheritance of the House of Habsburg in the Low Countries when the monarch was absent from the territory. The role of the governor-generals significantly changed over time: initially tutors and advisors of Emperor Charles V, who lived at the Palace of Coudenberg, they served as generals during the 80 Years War between the Kingdom of Spain and the Dutch Republic. Alexander Farnese, Prince Of Parma
Alessandro Farnese (10 January 1635 – 18 February 1689) was an Italian military leader, who was Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands from 1678 until 1682. He is not to be confused with his better known great-grandfather Alexander Farnese, Duke of Parma. This Alessandro was often called Alessandro di Odoardo (son of Odoardo). His title was ''Prince of Parma''. His elder brother Ranuccio II was the sixth Duke of Parma and Piacenza . Jean-Baptiste Lully ( , , ; born Giovanni Battista Lulli, ; – 22 March 1687) was an Italian-born French composer, guitarist, violinist, and dancer who is considered a master of the French Baroque music style. Gio Paolo Bombarda
Gio Paolo Bombarda (Rome, c.1650 – Paris, 6 December 1712) was the founder of the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. Life Musician, councillor and treasurer to Maximilian II Emanuel, Elector of Bavaria in Munich, he was taken on by the court orchestra in 1680 and, in 1686, he married the daughter of the composer Ercole Bernabei. When Maximilian became governor of the Spanish Netherlands in 1692, Bombarda went with him to Brussels and became his emissary to the French and Dutch bankers. In 1693 he married his second wife, in Amsterdam, the daughter of the Antwerp banker Cloots. In 1694 Bombarda and Pietro Antonio Fiocco rented the Opéra du Quai au Foin, managing it for three years. Pietro Antonio Fiocco
Pietro Antonio Fiocco (or Pier Antonio or Pierre-Antoine) (3 February 1654 – 3 September 1714) was an Italian people, Italian Baroque composer. Life Pietro Antonio Fiocco was born in Venice. Nothing is known of his childhood and his musical formation in Italy, but it is known that he soon made a name for himself, since Dirck Strijcker, the son of the Dutch consul in Venice had him come to Amsterdam, where an opera was founded. In 1681 the booklet of ''Helena rapita da Paride'' appeared, composed by Domenico Freschi, and for which Fiocco arranged the music. The same year he composed a prologue for ''Alceste'' by Pietro Andrea Ziani sung in Hanover in 1682, and for the Jean-Baptiste Lully, Lully operas ''Amadis, Acis et Galathée, Armide'' and ''Thésée''.
