Opus (audio Format)
Opus is a lossy audio coding format developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation and standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force, designed to efficiently code speech and general audio in a single format, while remaining low-latency enough for real-time interactive communication and low-complexity enough for low-end embedded processors. Opus replaces both Vorbis and Speex for new applications, and several blind listening tests have ranked it higher-quality than any other standard audio format at any given bitrate until transparency is reached, including MP3, AAC, and HE-AAC. Opus combines the speech-oriented LPC-based SILK algorithm and the lower-latency MDCT-based CELT algorithm, switching between or combining them as needed for maximal efficiency. Bitrate, audio bandwidth, complexity, and algorithm can all be adjusted seamlessly in each frame. ''Opus'' was a Sunday strip drawn by Berkeley Breathed from November 23, 2003, to November 2, 2008. It was Breathed's fourth comic strip, following ''The Academia Waltz'', ''Bloom County'' and '' Outland''. Set in Bloom County, the satirical strip featured Breathed's character Opus the Penguin It was launched on November 23, 2003, and was syndicated by The Washington Post Writers Group. In early October 2008 the author declared he was terminating the strip because of his expectation that the United States is going to face tough times and his desire to depart from his most famous character "on a lighter note". Opus The Penguin
Opus the Penguin (Opus T. Penguin) is a fictional character created by artist Berkeley Breathed. Breathed has described him as an "existentialist penguin" and the favorite of his many characters. Opus has appeared in several of Breathed's creations, most notably his 1980s comic strip ''Bloom County''. Breathed also included Opus in the sequel strip to ''Bloom County'', '' Outland'', and later made him the star of his own self-titled strip. Introduction and appearance Opus was originally introduced in June 1981, as a one-time gag about hapless Mike Binkley bringing home what he thought was a German Shepherd, which turned out to be a penguin, much to the disappointment of his father. After being featured in a few strips, the character was dropped for several months, before being gradually re-introduced in January 1982, and eventually becoming a central character in Bloom County. Directory Opus
Directory Opus (or "DOpus" as its users tend to call it) is a File manager, file manager program, originally written for the Amiga computer system in the early to mid-1990s. Commercial development on the version for the Amiga ceased in 1997. Directory Opus is still being actively developed and sold for the Microsoft Windows operating system by GPSoftware and there are open source releases of Directory Opus 4 and 5 for Amiga. Directory Opus was originally developed by, and is still written by, Australian Jonathan Potter. Until 1994, it was published by well-known Amiga software company Inovatronics, when Potter joined with Greg Perry and the Australian-based GPSoftware to continue its development, and has since been published by GPSoftware. ''Opus 1'' is the debut and only studio album by Yugoslav progressive rock band Opus, released in 1975. Recording and release The band Opus, formed and led by organist Miodrag Okrugić, from its formation in 1973 until the final breakup in 1979 went through two breakups and reformations and numerous lineup changes. ''Opus 1'' was recorded after the band's first reformation, in 1975, in the lineup which, beside Okrugić, featured Slobodan Orlić (a former Siluete members, bass guitar), Ljubomir Jerković (drums), and Dušan Prelević (a former Korni Grupa member, vocals). The album was recorded during August 1975, in PGP-RTB's Studio V. The album, released in luxurious sleeve designed by Dragan S. Stefanović, featured symphonic rock-oriented sound. ''Opus'' is the eighth studio album of the music project Schiller created by the German electronic musician Christopher Von Deylen. The album was announced on and was released on . On this album Schiller has collaborated with Russian operatic soprano Anna Netrebko, French pianist Hélène Grimaud and German classical oboist Albrecht Mayer. Opus is the first release of the new label "Panorama" by Deutsche Grammophon. The album reached in its first week number 1 of the German albums chart and number 6 in Switzerland and number 10 in Austria. These are the highest entries of Schiller in Austria and Switzerland and the fourth number-1-album of Schiller in Germany. Opus ( sr-cyr, Опус) was a SFRY, Yugoslav progressive rock band formed in Belgrade in 1973. Opus was a prominent act of the 1970s Yugoslav rock scene. Formed and led by former YU Grupa keyboardist Miodrag "Mive" Okrugić, the band went through several lineup changes, its various lineups featuring notable musicians like guitarist Miodrag "Bata" Kostić, vocalist Dušan Prelević and guitarist Vidoja Božinović, Vidoja "Džindžer" Božinović. The band released only opus 1 (album), one studio album, ending their activity in 1979. Opus (Austrian Band)
Opus was a pop-rock group from Graz, Austria. Formed in 1973, the group remained active until 2021, when they retired. The band is mainly known for its 1985 single release, "Live Is Life", which reached the Top 10 in several European countries. History In 1985, Opus released "Live Is Life", which topped the charts in many countries; it was a #1 hit in Canada for seven weeks in late 1985 and early 1986. A live recording of the song made the Top 40 in the US in 1986. It reached #6 in the UK Singles Chart on 3 August 1985, and stayed in the charts for 15 weeks. Another standout track from Opus was the power ballad "Flyin' High" a live version of which appeared both on the ''Live is life'' album, and on their successful US release, ''Up and Down''. ''Opus'' is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Satoshi Kon. The story is about a manga artist who is pulled into the world of the manga he is concluding and forced to confront his characters. The manga was serialized in the manga magazine ''Comic Guys'' from October 1995 until the magazine's cancellation in June 1996. It was collected into two volumes by Tokuma Shoten on December 13, 2010 and included a missing ending found after Kon's death. Dark Horse Comics licensed the manga in North America and released it in an omnibus edition on December 9, 2014. The French edition of the manga won the 2013 Asia Critics Prize from the ''Association des Critiques et des journalistes de Bande Dessinée'' and was nominated for the ''Sélection Officiele'' at the 2014 Angoulême International Comics Festival.
