Operation Karbala 3
Operation Karbala 3 ( Persian: عملیات کربلای 3), also known as the Battle of Al-Ummiyah, was an operation during Iran–Iraq War, which was launched by Iran from 30 August to 2 September 1986 with the operation code of "Hasbonallah wa Ne'mal Wakil (Persian/Arabic: حسبنا الله و نعم الوکیل)". The main impetus of the operation was to capture and destroy two Iraq docks (Al-Umayyah and Al-Bakr). Operation Karbala-6
Operation Karbala-6 was an Iranian operation during the Iran–Iraq War to prevent Iraq from rapidly transferring units to its defense lines at Basra after Iran had launched Operation Karbala-5 to capture the city of Basra. Iran used Basij militiamen armed with Kalashnikov rifle, Kalashnikovs and RPG-7s, the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, Army's 77th Division (Iran), 77th Mechanized Division of Khorasan equipped with M47 and M48 tanks, 106mm recoilless rifle, 130mm and 230mm artillery, supported by attack helicopters, and IRGC, Pasdaran's 31st Ashura Division which was armed with captured Iraqi tanks. Operation Karbala-9 ( Persian: عملیات کربلای 9) was an offensive operation in Iran–Iraq War, which was launched by Islamic Republic of Iran Army with the operation code of "Ya Mahdi, Adrekni" (Persian/ Arabic: یا مهدی ادرکنی) on 9 April 1987. Operation Karbala 8 (Persian: عملیات کربلای ۸) was an operation which was commenced by Iran on 7 April 1987 with the --Islamic-- code of "Ya Saheb al-Zaman" (Persian: یا صاحب الزمان). Operation Karbala 8 was launched with the goal of destruction of Iraqi forces, and strengthening the obtained positions of operation Karbala 5 in 5 days by Iran in the east of Basrah operation area (Shalamcheh) by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ground forces. The siege of Basra, code-named Operation Karbala-5 ( fa, عملیات کربلای ۵ ) or The Great Harvest ( ar, الحصاد الاكبر), was an offensive operation carried out by Iran in an effort to capture the Iraqi port city of Basra in early 1987. This battle, known for its extensive casualties and ferocious conditions, was the biggest battle of the war and proved to be the last major Iranian offensive. The Iranians failed to reach their objective. The Iran–Iraq War was an armed conflict between Iran and Iraq that lasted from September 1980 to August 1988. Operation Karbala-4
Operation Karbala-4 was an Iranian offensive in the Iran–Iraq War on the southern front. The operation was launched after the failure of Operation Karbala-2 and Operation Karbala-3 to move the Iraqi lines in an effort to capture Iraqi territory. Prelude The battle itself was planned and eventually executed by Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. The operation would be launched under cover of darkness in order to gain a foothold along the Shatt-al-Arab waterway. Once across, the Iranian forces would go on the offensive and eventually move onto the port city of Basra. The attack would be launched towards the Umm ar-Rasas Island in the Shatt al Arab. It most likely was meant as a diversionary attack before the upcoming Operation Karbala-5 (although it may have been called that only after it failed).
