Operation Fayette Canyon
Operation Fayette Canyon was a security operation during the Vietnam War in Quảng Nam Province, that took place from 15 December 1968 to 28 February 1969. Background The operation was launched by elements of the 196th Infantry Brigade in "Antenna Valley", Hiệp Đức District and in the Nui Mat Rang mountains northwest of Tam Kỳ as a series of reconnaissance in force and search operations to disrupt enemy training and refitting operations, destroy base camps and capture supply caches. The operation was launched to complement the 1st Marine Division's Operation Taylor Common against Base Area 112. The 46th Infantry Regiment ("The Professionals") is a unit in the United States Army that served in World War II and Vietnam. History During World War II, the 46th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 5th Armored Division. Landing at Normandy in 1944, the 46th Infantry led the 5th Armored Division in five campaigns earning the nickname "Victory’s Spearpoint". For their repeated courage under fire, the 2nd Battalion, 46th Infantry, was awarded two Presidential Unit Citations, the French Croix de Guerre, and the Luxembourg Croix de Guerre, those nation’s highest awards for gallantry in action. 52nd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 52nd Infantry Regiment ("Ready Rifles") is an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The charges on the canton of the regiment's coat of arms represent the 11th Infantry from which this regiment was formed in 1917. Its first combat service was in World War I in the Gerardmer Sector in Alsace, a short distance west of Colmar. The bend from the arms of Alsace has been charged with the 6th Division shoulder sleeve insignia to show that the regiment was with that division in France. The coat of arms was originally approved for the 52d Infantry Regiment on 29 June 1921. It was redesignated for the 52d Armored Infantry Regiment on 29 September 1942. Landing Zone Professional (also known as FSB Professional or Hill 185) is a former U.S. Army base northwest of Chu Lai, Quang Tin Province, Vietnam. History The base was established in 1968 by the 23rd Infantry Division and was located approximately 32 km northwest of Chu Lai and 16 km southwest of Landing Zone East. The base was occupied by elements of the 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment and 1st Battalion, 14th Artillery when it was attacked by the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) V-16 Sapper Battalion on the early morning of 12 May 1969. 31st Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 31st Infantry Regiment ("Polar Bears") of the United States Army was formed on 13 August 1916, and was part of USAFFE's Philippine Division during World War II. The unit is rare in that it was formed and has spent most of its life on non-American soil. The regiment is the third to bear the designation; the first was formed for the War of 1812 and disbanded in 1815. The second was created from the 3rd Battalion of the 13th Infantry on 28 July 1866, in the reorganization of the U.S. Army following the American Civil War. The second organization to be called the 31st Infantry was consolidated with its sister regiment the 22nd Infantry (also formed out of the 13th) in an 1869 reorganization.
