Landing Zone Professional
Landing Zone Professional (also known as FSB Professional or Hill 185) is a former U.S. Army base northwest of Chu Lai, Quang Tin Province, Vietnam. History The base was established in 1968 by the 23rd Infantry Division and was located approximately 32 km northwest of Chu Lai and 16 km southwest of Landing Zone East. The base was occupied by elements of the 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment and 1st Battalion, 14th Artillery when it was attacked by the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) V-16 Sapper Battalion on the early morning of 12 May 1969. Following the sapper attack the PAVN continued to mortar the base and set up heavy machine guns to prevent helicopter support. On 13 May the PAVN 3rd Regiment 2nd Division engaged Company A 1/46th Infantry near the base, the Company commander Captain Kern W. 23rd Infantry Division (United States)
The Americal Division was an infantry division of the United States Army during World War II and the Vietnam War. The division was activated 27 May 1942 on the island of New Caledonia. In the immediate emergency following Pearl Harbor, the United States had hurriedly sent a task force to defend New Caledonia against a feared Japanese attack. This division was the only division formed outside of United States territory during World War II (a distinction it would repeat when reformed during the Vietnam War). At the suggestion of a subordinate, the division's commander, Major General Alexander Patch, requested that the new unit be known as the ''Americal Division''—the name being a contraction of "American, New Caledonian Division". This was unusual, as with the exception of the Philippine Division, all other U.S. divisions were known by a number. 2nd Division (Vietnam)
The 2nd Infantry Division also known as Quảng Đà Division or Steel Division is a division of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN), first formed from Viet Cong (VC) and PAVN units in October 1965. The first commander and the first commissar of the division were Colonel Nguyễn Năng and Senior Colonel Nguyễn Minh Đức respectively. In Vietnam War The Division was formed on 20 October 1965 from the 1st ( Ba Gia) Regiment and the 21st Regiment which had just arrived from North Vietnam. 52nd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 52nd Infantry Regiment ("Ready Rifles") is an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The charges on the canton of the regiment's coat of arms represent the 11th Infantry from which this regiment was formed in 1917. Its first combat service was in World War I in the Gerardmer Sector in Alsace, a short distance west of Colmar. The bend from the arms of Alsace has been charged with the 6th Division shoulder sleeve insignia to show that the regiment was with that division in France. The 46th Infantry Regiment ("The Professionals") is a unit in the United States Army that served in World War II and Vietnam. History During World War II, the 46th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 5th Armored Division.
