Ontario High School is a public high school located in Ontario, Oregon, United States. It is a part of Ontario School District 8C. History Earlier in 2015 the Four Rivers Community School charter school, then a K-8 school, proposed getting a grant from the Oregon Department of Education so it could establish a dual English-Spanish literacy program and high level Spanish courses for Four Rivers graduates at Ontario High. In December 2015 Four Rivers instead proposed establishing its own high school. Demographics The demographic breakdown of the 726 students enrolled in 2013-2014 was: *Male - 48.5% *Female - 51.5% *Native American/Alaskan - 1.1% *Asian/Pacific Islanders - 2.1% *Black - 0.8% *Hispanic - 60.3% *White - 34.5% *Multiracial - 1.2% 71.6% of the students were eligible for free or reduced lunch. Ontario is the largest city in Malheur County, Oregon, United States. It lies along the Snake River at the Idaho border. The population was 11,366 at the 2010 census. The city is the largest community in the region of far eastern Oregon, also known as the Western Treasure Valley. Purple Heart
The Purple Heart (PH) is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving, on or after 5 April 1917, with the U.S. military. Michael Echanis
Michael Dick Echanis (November 16, 1950 – September 8, 1978) was an American enlisted soldier and self-styled " soldier of fortune". In 1970, he served briefly in "C" Company, 75th Ranger Regiment Infantry in Vietnam. Echanis then made his living as a martial artist, writer and editor. He was the martial arts editor for the magazine '' Soldier of Fortune'' (''SOF'') from 1974 to 1976. He died while working as a private security contractor in Nicaragua at the behest of the Nicaraguan National Guard. This was reported by ''SOF'' in an article published after the incident. The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) is a non-profit, board-governed organization that regulates high school athletics and competitive activities via athletic conferences in the U.S. state of Oregon, providing equitable competition among its members, both public and private. The newspaper was established on January 6, 1897, and went through several names and owners before becoming the ''Argus Observer'', which is a reference to Argus Panoptes, a creature from Greek mythology that had 100 eyes. Four Rivers Community School
Four Rivers Community School (4RCC, es, Escuela Comunitaria Cuatro Ríos) is a K-12 charter school in Ontario, Oregon. The Oregon Board of Education sponsors Four Rivers. History It began operations in 2003. Initially the entity establishing the school negotiated with the Ontario School District 8C's school board, but the negotiations were unsuccessful, and the charter school got authorization from the State of Oregon. In 2013 it had 250 students. 80% of the students were of ethnic backgrounds other than non-Hispanic white, and 80% of the students were classified as being from families with low incomes. Based on these metrics, the school was one of the charter elementaries in Oregon with the highest ethnic diversity levels. Ontario School District 8C (OSD) is a school district headquartered in Ontario, Oregon. The district is entirely in Malheur County. History Previously students at Four Rivers Community School, a charter school, were allowed to join extracurricular teams at District 8C campuses, but the district ended this in 2016. Hunter Marrow of the ''Argus Observer'' reported that this caused massive controversy. In 2021 Nicole Albisu, the superintendent, reported fatigue in the district's faculty.
