Jacksonville is a city in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 72,723, which makes Jacksonville the 14th-largest city in North Carolina. Jacksonville is the county seat and most populous community of Onslow County, which is coterminous with the Jacksonville, North Carolina metropolitan area. Demographically, Jacksonville is the youngest city in the United States, with an average age of 22.8 years old, which can be attributed to the large military presence. The low age may also be in part due to the population drastically going up over the past 80 years, from 783 in the 1930 census to 72,876 in the 2021 Census estimate. Richlands, North Carolina
Richlands is a town in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States. The 2010 population was 1,520. It is included in the Jacksonville, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. Incorporated on March 29, 1880, it was the first town in Onslow County to have its own library and museum (home of the Onslow County Museum). Richlands was also the first town in Onslow County to have a female mayor, Annette Hargett. History A post office called Richlands has been in operation since 1806. Sneads Ferry is a census-designated place (CDP) in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States. It is the second largest municipality in Onslow County, behind Jacksonville and is part of the Jacksonville, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. Once a rural fishing village, Sneads Ferry has experienced a surge in development since 2000. White Oak High School is a public high school in the city of Jacksonville, North Carolina, in Onslow County, United States, and classified as a 3A school by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. It is one of the seven high schools of Onslow County Schools. History White Oak High School opened and was accredited for the issuance of high school diplomas in August 1927. The first class graduated in the spring of 1928. The original school was constructed off of present day Swansboro-Belgrade Road (Maysville, NC). The school was renamed "Tabernacle" at the end of the 1969–70 school year as the "new" White Oak High School was constructed on Piney Green Road (the present day location). Until the spring of 1970, the mascot for White Oak was the Red Devil and the colors were red and white.
