"Only The Ones We Love" is a song by British singer-songwriter Tanita Tikaram, which was released in 1991 as the lead single from her third studio album ''Everybody's Angel''. It was written by Tikaram, and produced by Tikaram, Peter van Hooke and Rod Argent. Background Speaking of the song's message, Tikaram told Simon Mayo for the ''Reading Evening Post'' in 1991: "I made a deliberate effort last year to spend time with my family and the song is about that. I used to have this desire to be by myself all the time. You need to be reflected in the people you care for and who love you. I used to think there was this ideal place where you'd find you belonged. But as I get older I realise that place already exists in the people who care about you. And that's what the song is about." Tanita Tikaram
Tanita Tikaram (born 12 August 1969) is a British pop/folk singer-songwriter. She achieved chart success with the singles " Twist in My Sobriety" and " Good Tradition" from her 1988 debut album, ''Ancient Heart''. Background Tikaram was born in Münster, West Germany, the daughter of an Indo-Fijian British Army officer, Pramod Tikaram, and a Sarawakian mother, Fatimah Rohani. Her father's military career meant that she spent her early life in Germany before moving to Basingstoke, Hampshire, England when she was in her early teens. She is the younger sister of the actor Ramon Tikaram and the great-niece of Sir Moti Tikaram, who was the first Lord Chief Justice of an independent Fiji and the world's longest-serving national ombudsman. David Hayes is an American bassist, guitarist, producer, singer and songwriter. Biography Hayes has worked with Van Morrison, Jesse Colin Young, The Rowans, Terry & The Pirates, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Country Joe McDonald and others. Hayes first played on a Van Morrison album in 1973 with the release of '' Hard Nose the Highway'' and was a member of Morrison's acclaimed band, The Caledonia Soul Orchestra playing on the live album, ''It's Too Late to Stop Now''. Paul Lester is a British music journalist, author and broadcaster from Elstree, North London.
