On The Black Hill (film)
''On the Black Hill'' is a 1987 film directed by Andrew Grieve, based upon the novel of the same name by Bruce Chatwin. Although Bruce Chatwin initially considered his novel about 80 years of rural family life in the Welsh border country unfilmable, he changed his mind when he saw how keen director Andrew Grieve was to make it and they went together to see some of the places and meet some of the people that Chatwin had been inspired by. Andrew Grieve
Andrew Grieve (born 28 November 1939) is a British television and film director. Grieve's credits include ''Wire in the Blood''. ''On the Black Hill (film), On the Black Hill'', the screenplay of which he also wrote, won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 1988. He has also directed episodes of ''Agatha Christie's Poirot'' and ''Hornblower (TV series), Hornblower''. His work on ''Hornblower'' won him the Silver FIPA at the Biarritz International Festival of Audiovisual Programming in 1999. He has since written and directed the BBC drama-documentary ''Heroes and Villains (TV series), Heroes and Villains'' episode on Hernán Cortés. Llanfihangel Nant Brân is a small village lying next to the Nant Brân river in Powys, Wales about 7.5 miles (12 km) west of Brecon. It is largely a farming community.
