Andrew Grieve
Andrew Grieve (born 28 November 1939) is a British television and film director. Grieve's credits include ''Wire in the Blood''. ''On the Black Hill (film), On the Black Hill'', the screenplay of which he also wrote, won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 1988. He has also directed episodes of ''Agatha Christie's Poirot'' and ''Hornblower (TV series), Hornblower''. His work on ''Hornblower'' won him the Silver FIPA at the Biarritz International Festival of Audiovisual Programming in 1999. He has since written and directed the BBC drama-documentary ''Heroes and Villains (TV series), Heroes and Villains'' episode on Hernán Cortés. Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales. A television director is in charge of the activities involved in making a television program or section of a program. They are generally responsible for decisions about the editorial content and creative style of a program, and ensuring the producer's vision is delivered. The Golden Shell ( es, Concha de Oro; eu, Urrezko Maskorra) is the highest prize given to a competing film at the San Sebastián Film Festival. It was introduced in 1957. In 1953 and 1954, the highest prize had been called the Gran Premio. In 1955 and 1956 it was replaced by the Silver Shell. ''On the Black Hill'' is a 1987 film directed by Andrew Grieve, based upon the novel of the same name by Bruce Chatwin. Although Bruce Chatwin initially considered his novel about 80 years of rural family life in the Welsh border country unfilmable, he changed his mind when he saw how keen director Andrew Grieve was to make it and they went together to see some of the places and meet some of the people that Chatwin had been inspired by. ''Heroes and Villains'' is a 2007–2008 BBC Television drama series looking at key moments in the lives and reputations of some of the greatest warriors of history. Each hour-long episode features a different historical figure, including Napoleon I of France, Attila the Hun, Spartacus, Hernán Cortés, Richard I of England, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Hernán Cortés de Monroy y Pizarro Altamirano, 1st Marquess of the Valley of Oaxaca (; ; 1485 – December 2, 1547) was a Spanish ''conquistador'' who led an expedition that caused the fall of the Aztec Empire and brought large portions of what is now mainland Mexico under the rule of the King of Castile in the early 16th century.
