Ombo
Ombo is an island in the municipality of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is the largest island in the Ryfylke region and the second largest island in Rogaland county. There are several villages on the island including Jørstadvåg, Atlatveit, and Eidssund in the western part of the island and the villages of Tuftene, Skipavik, Skår, and Vestersjø are located on the southeastern part of the island. Jørstad Church is located in the village of Jørstadvåg. The island is the northeasternmost part of the vast Stavanger municipality, nearly from the city of Stavanger, the administrative centre of the municipality. Prior to 2020, the island was divided between the municipalities Hjelmeland and Finnøy. In 2020, the island joined Stavanger municipality. Finnøy
Finnøy is a former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2020 when it was merged into Stavanger Municipality. It was located in the traditional district of Ryfylke. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Judaberg. The municipality consisted of a number of islands on the south side of the Boknafjorden, about northeast of the city of Stavanger. The Finnøy Tunnel connects the two islands of Finnøy and Talgje to the mainland. The rest of the islands are accessible only by boat. Finnøy is an agricultural community dominated by dairy, meat, poultry, and fish farming products, with strong horticultural traditions, mainly greenhouse production of tomatoes, as well as some tourism. Hjelmeland
is a municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Ryfylke. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Hjelmelandsvågen. Other villages in the municipality include Fister, Årdal, and Jøsenfjorden. Hjelmeland is known for its fruit (apples, pears, plums, cherries and strawberries) and fish production. Salmon has been important for the fish industry in Hjelmeland for a couple of decades, but white fish such as cod and halibut has increased its value in the latter years. Randøy
Randøy is an island in Hjelmeland municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island lies just off the mainland between the Jøsenfjorden and the Årdalsfjorden. The large island of Ombo lies to the north and the island of Halsnøya lies to the west. The highest point on the island is the tall mountain, Randåsen. The island is relatively flat in the south and it is more mountainous and forested in the central and northern regions. The island is known for its rich flora. Hjelmelandsvågen is the administrative centre of Hjelmeland municipality, Norway. The village is located on the south side of the mouth of the Jøsenfjorden. Judaberg is a village in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern shore of the island of Finnøy. The island is located on the south side of the Boknafjorden, northeast of the large city of Stavanger. The village has a population (2019) of 850 and a population density of . Judaberg is the commercial centre of the municipality with several small industries as well as shopping. The Rygjabø upper secondary school, the only high school in Finnøy is located here. Sjernarøyane
Sjernarøyane is an island group in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The islands are located in the Nedstrandsfjorden, west of the large island of Ombo and north of the large island of Finnøy. As of 2014, the islands were home to 365 residents. The islands were historically part of the municipality of Sjernarøy before merging into the municipality of Finnøy in 1965. Then in 2020, the islands were transferred to Stavanger municipality. The Aubøsund strait, which runs between the islands of Aubø and Bjergøy was a historically important trading post. Finnøy (island)
Finnøy is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is located on the southern side of the Boknafjorden, about northeast of the city of Stavanger. The largest urban area on the island is the village of Judaberg which is located on the eastern shore of the island. The village of Hesby, on the western coast, is a historical seat of power dating back to the Middle Ages. Hesby is also the site of Hesby Church which dates back to around the year 1100 A.D. Prior to 2020, the island was part of Finnøy municipality. Finnøy island is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges and undersea tunnels. Finnøy Tunnel connects Finnøy to the nearby island of Rennesøy, and to the nearby island of Talgje. Boknafjorden
Boknafjord or Boknafjorden ( en, Bokna Fjord) is a fjord located in Rogaland county, Norway. The huge fjord lies between the cities of Stavanger and Haugesund and dominates the central part of the county. The main part of the fjord is shared between the municipalities of Kvitsøy, Stavanger, Tysvær, Bokn, and Karmøy. There are dozens of smaller fjords that branch off the main part of the fjord, reaching most municipalities in the county. Jørstad Church
Jørstad Church ( no, Jørstad kirke) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in the northern part of the large Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Jørstadvågen on the island of Ombo. It is an annex chapel in the Sjernarøy parish which is part of the Tungenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1929 using designs by the architect Gustav Helland. The church seats about 150 people.
