Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, is a sports and recreation hub for health and wellbeing collaborative research and learning. About Legacy Park Ltd. is a joint venture between Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield City Council, created to deliver the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. Lower Don Valley
The Lower Don Valley, or historically the East End of Sheffield, is the mainly industrial north-east quarter of Sheffield, England. Located on the River Don, it encompasses the areas of Attercliffe, Brightside, Darnall, Tinsley and Wincobank. The area became the heart of Sheffield's steel industry during the 19th and 20th century. However it went into decline during the 1970s and 1980s as the nature of steel manufacture changed from large industrial sites with large scale employment to more streamlined and automated manufacture. As a result, large areas were derelict by the end of the 1980s despite the steel industry continuing to increase production and the Sheffield Development Corporation were given the task of redeveloping the area. Sheffield Eagles
The Sheffield Eagles are a professional rugby league club that play in the Championship (rugby league), Betfred Championship. The club play their home games at the Olympic Legacy Park (OLP) on the former site of Don Valley Stadium, their former ground. The original club was formed in 1984 and formerly competed in the Super League. The new, current club was formed in 2000 following a merger of the old club with Huddersfield Giants. The old club's biggest achievement was winning the Challenge Cup in 1998. The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS foundation trust in Sheffield, England. Sheffield City Council is the city council for the metropolitan borough of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. It consists of 84 councillors, elected to represent 28 wards, each with three councillors. The English Institute of Sport is a multi-sport facility in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The facility designed by FaulknerBrowns Architects was opened in December 2003 at a cost of £24 million. Its main feature is a 200m indoor track, but it also hosts several other sporting arenas as well as a large gym and extensive sports medicine facilities. IceSheffield
iceSheffield is an ice arena in the Lower Don Valley, Sheffield, England. iceSheffield was completed in May 2003 at a cost of £15 million and is a Centre of Excellence for figure skating, ice dance and hockey, and it is one of only two facilities in the UK that has two Olympic sized ice pads with seating for 1,500 people in pad 1 and 125 in pad 2. Its overall philosophy of use/focus is for the inclusion and activities for all ice sports from community and grass root usage to elite performance. Don Valley Stadium
Don Valley Stadium was a sports stadium in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The venue, which was completed in September 1990, hosted the 1991 World Student Games. It was designed by Sheffield City Council's Design & Building Services and named after the nearby River Don. It was demolished in 2013. The stadium and facilities were also used for a variety of other events and sports. It served as a training base for the City of Sheffield Athletic Club and was the home of the Sheffield Half Marathon. Rotherham United F.C. played their home matches at Don Valley between 2008 and 2012 when they were without a ground in Rotherham. Oasis Academy Don Valley
Oasis Academy Don Valley is an all-through school located in the Attercliffe area of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The school opened in September 2015, and is sponsored by the Oasis Trust. It opened with just 4 year groups and these are working their way through the school, in September 2020 the oldest students had entered the first year nine. The school is somewhat unusual in teaching German as the first foreign language. Description The school opened in 2015 with 54 students in 4 year groups with 18 teachers on the site of the former Don Valley Stadium in the Olympic Legacy Park.
