Olof Palme Assassination
On 28 February 1986, at 23:21 CET (22:21 UTC), Olof Palme, Prime Minister of Sweden, was fatally wounded by a single gunshot while walking home from a cinema with his wife Lisbeth Palme on the central Stockholm street Sveavägen. Lisbeth Palme was slightly wounded by a second shot. The couple did not have bodyguards with them. Christer Pettersson, who had previously been convicted of manslaughter, was convicted of the murder in 1988 after having been identified as the killer by Mrs. Palme. However, on appeal to Svea Court of Appeal, he was acquitted. A petition for a new trial, filed by the prosecutor, was denied by the Supreme Court of Sweden. Pettersson died on 29 September 2004, legally declared not guilty of the Palme assassination. On 10 June 2020, chief prosecutor Krister Petersson, in charge of the investigation, announced his conclusion that Stig Engström, also known as the "Skandia Man", was the most likely suspect. Sveavägen
Sveavägen is a major street in Stockholm, Sweden. Sveavägen originates at Sergels torg in the city district of Norrmalm, and goes north through the Vasastan district toward the border to Solna Municipality and the Haga Park. It is often known as the busiest road in Sweden. Sveavägen follows a straight line from Sergels torg up to Sveaplan and Wenner-Gren Center where it takes a sharp left turn until the junction at Norrtull where it becomes Norra Stationsgatan. Between Rådmansgatan and Hötorget stations, the Green line of the Stockholm metro runs underneath Sveavägen. Both stations have access from the street. Hötorget Metro Station
Hötorget, formerly known as Kungsgatan, is an underground station on the Green line of the Stockholm metro. It is situated near to the Hötorget square in the borough of Norrmalm in central Stockholm, and lies below Sveavägen between its junctions with and . The station has three entrances, one at each end and one in the middle from Kungsgatan. The central entrance includes an underground square with several shops and stores. The distance to Slussen is . The station was inaugurated on 26 October 1952 as the east terminus of the stretch between Hötorget and Vällingby. Rådmansgatan Metro Station
Rådmansgatan is an underground station on the Green line of the Stockholm metro. It lies below Sveavägen between its junctions with Rådmansgatan and in the district of Vasastaden and borough of Norrmalm in central Stockholm. The station has a single island platform, some below street level, and is accessed via a pair of ticket halls at each end of the station. The ticket halls are accessed via staircases and lifts from the street above. The station was opened on 26 October 1952 as a part of the Green line section between Hötorget and Vällingby.
