Oliver Sundberg
Oliver Sundberg (born 16 February 1982) is a Danish speedskater. Along with Cathrine Grage, Sundberg is the first Danish speedskater to reach international competition levels since Kurt Stille ended his career in 1964. His 2006 and 2007 results were good enough to pass the qualification limits of the International Skating Union for participation in the European Championships. He also regularly competes in ISU's World Cup. Sundberg started breaking Stille's 41-year-old Danish records on 19 March 2005, when he skated 42.65 in the 500-m and 2:06.51 in the 1,500-m at races in Groningen. Sundberg later broke Stille's other national records, and has repeatedly improved his own best results. As of March 2007, Sundberg has set a Danish record of 36 Danish records. Speed Skating
Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors racing, race each other in travelling a certain distance on Ice skate, skates. Types of speed skating are long track speed skating, short track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. In the Olympic Games, long-track speed skating is usually referred to as just "speed skating", while short-track speed skating is known as "short track". The International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of competitive ice sports, refers to long track as "speed skating" and short track as "short track skating". Cathrine Grage
Cathrine Grage (born 13 October 1976) is a Danish speedskater, inline skater and cyclist. As of January 2012, Grage has set a total of 61 successive national records, and holds all of the Danish women's records in speed skating, at all distances. In addition, she holds various national samalogue records, though not all of these have been ratified by the Danish skating association. Career Grange began inline skating at the age of 7. She began her competitive career in 2001, at the age of 25. Grage skated the World Inline Cup for two seasons. Her best results were 5th in Glarus and 11th in Seoul. She has more than 20 national titles on inline skates and she has won the Master World Championships one time and the Master European Championships 4 times. She participated in the European Championships in Heerde 2004, where she placed 8th on the 1,000 m and 13th in the points. Kurt Stille
Kurt Robert Stille (born 19 November 1934) is a former Danish speed skater, who competed at top international levels from 1957 to 1964. He was born in Copenhagen, but lives in Norway. He participated in both the 1960 Winter Olympics and 1964 Winter Olympics. Stille was the only Danish participant in the 1960 Olympics. His 9th place in the 1964 10,000-m was his best result; this was also the best result by any Dane in an individual event in the Winter Olympics history until 2018, when Viktor Hald Thorup placed fifth in the men's mass start speed skating. At the end of his career, Stille held the Danish speedskating records at all distances. These were 43.3 for 500 m (Karuizawa, 1963), 2:13.9 for 1,500 m (Bislett, 1964), 4:39.0 for 3,000 m (Bislett, 1964), 7:56.1 for 5,000 m (Innsbruck, 1964), and 16:28.5 for 10,000 m (Bislett, 1964). The International Skating Union (ISU) is the international governing body for competitive ice skating disciplines, including figure skating, synchronized skating, speed skating, and short track speed skating. It was founded in Scheveningen, Netherlands, in July 1892, making it one of the oldest international sport federations. Speed Skating World Cup
The ISU Speed Skating World Cup is a series of international speed skating competitions, organised annually by the International Skating Union since the winter of 1985–86. Every year during the winter season, a number of competitions on different distances and on different locations are held. Skaters can earn points at each competition, and the skater who has the most points on a given distance at the end of the series is the winner. Initially not very popular with skaters nor spectators, the World Cup has gradually become more and more popular, and this was due to the creation of the World Single Distance Championships. Eric Arthur Heiden (born June 14, 1958) is an American physician and a former long track speed skater, road cyclist and track cyclist. He won an unprecedented five individual gold medals, and set four Olympic records and one world record at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Heiden was the most successful athlete at those Olympic Games, single-handedly winning more gold medals than all nations except for the Soviet Union (10) and East Germany (9). He is the most successful Winter Olympian from a single edition of any Winter Olympics. He delivered the Athlete's Oath at those same 1980 Games. His coach was Dianne Holum. Adelskalender (skating)
The Adelskalender in skating is a ranking for long track speed skating based on skaters' all-time personal records for certain distances. As in samalog competitions, the skater's time (measured in seconds) for each distance is divided in 500 metre averages, truncated (not rounded) to 3 decimal places, and the results are then added up – the lower the sum, the better. The samalog system was introduced in 1928 in Norway, replacing ranking points in the traditional 4 distance championships, and can also be used to reconstruct scores based on personal records that were set before the samalog system was invented.
