Olive Hill High School
The Olive Hill High School is a former public high school located in Olive Hill, Kentucky in the United States. Built in 1929, the school was designed as a five-bay, two and three-story load-bearing brick building by H.A. Churchill and John P. Gillig. It is a combination of Romanesque and Federal styles. Four additional classrooms were added in the mid-1950s, flanking the original building with two classrooms on either side. One prominent feature of the building is 77 wooden windows that face U.S. 60, main street of the town. A newer two-story classroom addition located behind the historic structure was added in 1967 with an addition for a library completed in 1971. This structure replaced a three-story classroom addition that was condemned in 1966 due fire hazards. Additionally on the campus is a cafeteria building and workshop building. Olive Hill, Kentucky
Olive Hill is a home rule-class city along Tygarts Creek in Carter County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 1,599 during the year 2010 U.S. Census. History Olive Hill began as a rural trading post established by the Henderson brothers in the first part of the 19th century. Although Olive Hill was allegedly named by Elias P. Davis for his friend Thomas Oliver, there is no evidence to support this popular contention. In 1881, the town was moved from a hillside location to the current location in the Tygarts Creek valley, where the Elizabethtown, Lexington, and Big Sandy Railroad had laid tracks. The hillside location become known as Old Olive Hill and now serves as the city's residential area. K-1 is a professional kickboxing promotion established in 1993, well known worldwide mainly for its heavyweight division fights and Grand Prix tournaments. In January 2012, K-1 Global Holdings Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong, acquired the rights to K-1, and is the current organizer of K-1 events worldwide. West Carter High School is a high school located in Olive Hill, Kentucky and is part of the Carter County Schools System. Its mascot is the Comet, and the colors are maroon, blue, and white. The school motto is "We Champion High Success". The principal is Karen Tackett; the assistant principals are Kristen Bledsoe and Daniel Barker.
