Olev Olesk
Olev Olesk (4 March 1921 – 18 May 2017) was a former Estonian politician. He served as the last Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs in exile, between 1990 and 1992. Olev Olesk was born in the village of Sooküla, Peri Parish, Võru County (now part of the village of Rosma, Põlva Parish, in Põlva County). From 1942 to 1944, during the German occupation, he studied at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Law, and he was also a member of the Estonian Students' Society. On 22 September 1944, he escaped to Sweden from Salumetsa Talu on Paatsalu on Priidik Jungermann's ship ''Minnalaid'' together with 202 other refugees. Lennart Meri
Lennart Georg Meri (; 29 March 1929 – 14 March 2006) was an Estonian politician, writer, and film director. He served as the second president of Estonia from 1992 to 2001. Meri was among the leaders of the movement to restore Estonian independence from the Soviet Union. Early life Meri was born in Tallinn, a son of the Estonian diplomat and later Shakespeare translator Georg Meri, and Estonian Swedish mother Alice-Brigitta Engmann. With his family, Lennart left Estonia at an early age and studied abroad, in nine different schools and in four different languages. His warmest memories were from his school years in Lycée Janson de Sailly in Paris. In addition to his native Estonian, Lennart Meri fluently spoke five other languages: Finnish, French, German, English and Russian. Estonian Students' Society
The Estonian Students' Society ( et, Eesti Üliõpilaste Selts; commonly used acronym: EÜS) is the largest and oldest all-male academical student society in Estonia, and is similar to the Baltic German student organizations known as corporations (Corps) (not to be confused with US college fraternities). It was founded in 1870 at Tartu. It has over 900 members in Estonia and abroad. In 1881 the Society adopted blue, black and white as its colours. Its first flag was made in 1884 and this tricolour was later (1918) accepted as the National Flag of Estonia. The original flag is still in existence. In the wake of the Estonian national awakening, many young Estonian intellectuals had ties to the EÜS, and the organization had impact beyond its borders.
