Ole Hartvig Nissen Johannson
Ole Hartvig Nissen Johannson, Order of the British Empire, MBE (24 August 1875 – 1957) was a Norwegian businessperson. Personal life He was born in Oslo, Kristiania as a son of consul-general Johan Johannson (1836–1920), Johan Johannson and Helga Johanne Arentz Nissen (born 1855). He was a maternal grandson of school founder Hartvig Nissen,Genealogical entry of Ole Hartvig Nissen and thereby a nephew of Per Schjelderup Nissen and Henrik Nissen; and second cousin of prison director Hartvig Nissen (prison director), Hartvig Nissen and Kristian Nissen. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Havnelageret (also known as Oslo Havnelager) is a commercial building located at Langkaia 1 in Oslo, Norway. It houses Norwegian Defence Estates Agency as tenants. History The building was erected in the period 1916-20 and designed by architect Bredo Henrik Berntsen. Havnelageret was dedicated to the huge development of ship transport during and after the First World War. The construction of the building was challenging and extremely difficult with contemporary technology, and with rising prices and wages during the First World War, all calculations were surpassed. From the original amount of 3.2 million Norwegian kroner, the final cost ended up at 9.3 million kroner. Construction of Havnelageret was very complicated because the building had to be built on bedrock as a result of its large size. This bedrock lay 20 meters below ground level. The Norwegian Trekking Association ( no, Den norske turistforening, DNT) is a Norwegian association which maintains mountain trails and cabins in Norway. The association was founded on 21 January 1868 with the scope "to help and develop tourism in this country". The Norwegian America Line ( no, Den Norske Amerikalinje), was a shipping line, originally an operator of ocean liners and cargo ships. Founded in 1910, the company ran a regular transatlantic service between Norway and the United States, and later included a route to East Africa as well. Primarily due to competition from air travel, transatlantic passenger voyages were slowly discontinued during the years. After the Great War, the company was one of Norway’s largest shipping lines, owning a fleet that included 19 vessels, several of which were for commercial cargo transport.
