It was built in 1787, and is a T-shaped frame dwelling with exterior end chimneys and a gable roof. It features a modern one bay, two-story portico supported by four fluted Doric order columns. Bedford County is a United States county located in the Piedmont region of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its county seat is the town of Bedford, which was an independent city from 1968 until rejoining the county in 2013. The Doric order was one of the three orders of ancient Greek and later Roman architecture; the other two canonical orders were the Ionic and the Corinthian. The Doric is most easily recognized by the simple circular capitals at the top of columns.
